Damn lookit that pesky little bavarian piss-ant go!! BMW sure sucker punched the once unstoppable japanese I'd hate to see what a 1400cc version of that little beemer would be like
It wouldn't rev as high and make the same comparitive power for its bigger size, but it would still be a monster

I want to know where they got their 1/4 mile and hp numbers from? Every one of those bikes are 20+hp down and .5 second off of the 1/4 mile????
Some idiots wrote that column.

i emailed SSB magazine giving them a hard time about that article without the ZX-14..no response so far..yes the BMW is fast, but that HP figure is in the stratosphere, gotta rev it to the moon..the other liter bikes have more midrange..and its hard to beat the torque of a 14 or BUSA for the street.

I guess how you make HP can be just as important as how much hp you make. Just look at the 1/4 mile times of the R1, CBR and the BMW they are very close in fact to close to be meaningful yet the BMW makes between 25 and 27 hp more than the R1 and CBR. Anyone notice the BMW in the picture has a full Brock system on it so I would assume a PC is on the bike also. So now they are comparing stock jap bikes aganist a BMW with a full system and I assume a power commander? If that is the case the 146 and 148 hp R1 and CBR are a lot closer in terms of straight line speeds than the numbers printed would suggest if you compare stock bikes.

Ah.... those are race bikes and have noting to do with anything you can buy from a dealer even if you have enough cash. Its kind of like saying just becuse Pros are covering the 1/4 on stock wheelbase and stock motor zx14s faster than the typical guy can on a turbo zx14 proves turbo zx14s are not that fast at all and we know thats not true right.

Oh ya 4 sure, but 2011 reigns in a new king ?
It appears being the king now days requires more than just making the most HP. The zx10 has a history of making big power but not turning so well but maybe KHI put a total package together this time but they said that in 08 too and all we really got was more peak power.
