Well...I just couldn't continue riding my baby with the mods.Removed the PCV...The exhaust(Brock's)...Guhl ECU...I may still switch around with that once in a while.IDK...she had some more kick...yes...some.But I couldn't get past the CT sound and the irratic low rpm, driving performance.Ya...I wanted my smooth bike back. Not that it was terribly not okay(with me)...just...well...I like the quieter pipes. And the performance was actually very nice without the other stuff on there.Don't know yet what I'm gonna do with this full Titanium system...or the PCV....I'm not into doing the 'sounding like a 1000" thing.Mello...but strong sound is fine with me...plus the engine and all just is smoother without the add-ons.She's got more than enough power and thrills for me totally stock.

keep them stock less bull..... and trying to figure them out... unless you are going to race.

learned this long ago.... with many mods applied on all kind of bikes... and you save money to boot.

WTH? ..awe, Grn that's a bummmer! Lots of $$. I guess I would consider putting the items up for sale on a few forums like this....don't pay to offer the stuff unless you really want to sell it quick. I think Ebay requires the seller pay a fee or a percebtage or something. You let that stuff sit here and keep bumping it, someone will buy for a decent price. Normally I say half is all you get but if you are in no hurry, that system is in BIG demand. You can wait it out, keep that price up and sell to someone that needs the stuff.

also, sounds like you might want to get back into the modded bike sene at some point so no reason to sell unless you can get a price that makes you very well satisfied.

I'm glad you are so happy with your bike's stock performance and I agree with you and the others that a stocker feels more solid on the road and smoother and also a lot more reliable especially if you do long trips. I must admit that when I compare my stock busa to the now fairly well modded out 14, I secretly call the 14 "rattletrap!" LOL not that it actually rattles, but it is real edgy and harsh .....The more I am around race bikes, the more I see that being pretty is NOT what they are all about and they do not feel pretty to ride either. Still, that's what I'm into. Haven't lost my taste for that yet, not even in a street bike.

Yes I totally agree stock is better! Maybe just slip ons but if you start with fuel management, air filters and so on It just never runs as smooth or quite as stock! Plus are bike already has more then enough power!

Yep....all good points guys...especially Rook's saying 'rattletrap'...I know exactly what he's saying. The system and PC and mapping DID NOT ruin a perfectly fine bike...but I didn't like the muffler sound...just too loud...(for me) and the street map and all was designed to kick azz, with a slight 'race' edge to it,which I could feel translating into the bike's smoothness...nothing terrible or 'wrong' really...but I didn't want that going on....which IMO...and ONLY IMO....affected the low speed(parking lot type of speeds)smoothness. The system is great...works excellently. The PCV...very nice.I just at this time don't need any more 'kick' from this bad girl.Stock is thrill enough for me The torque and power is very THERE stock.

Mark said."unless you are going to race".Well...I'm not. This system is for that very thing...going really fast and outdoing ANYTHING that comes along. But she already does that....so.....

This system is VERY MUCH like the AlienHead system...almost identical in performance.

One of the first things you with notice when you start to perform some mods is ..... now the bike will become temperamental.. and for me that's one of the last things i would be wanting or looking for.

What the manufactures took months maybe years to figure out there is no way possible you will make it run better in less then a month or two... from other aftermarket parts suppliers.

Grn -

I know exactly what you mean. I installed a set of Two Bros. Black Series slip ons. They look great and took 21 lbs. off the bike. I won't go back to stock because of the weight and bulky look, BUT I don't care for the loudness. I expected much less noise. And I'm not in love with all the burbling at low speed on and off the throttle. I might put the noise restrictors back in but I feel the bike runs stronger without them. I guess it's a trade off, but the sound IS an issue for me.

Ya...the performance..plus the weight drop I could feel...but not worth the uncomfortable feeling while 'just out riding'.She's really sweet again now with all stock stuff back on.It's a trade off....even with the stock mapping and all...the low speed pull(parking lot speeds)has a tendency to surge 'just a teensy'.But it's much smoother stock...with the secondaries opening and buffering the engine action at those speeds.

But don't get me wrong if roadability is not a big factor....and you decide to mod by passing more fuel and air thru the engine at a faster rate... you will get a bigger kick of power for sure....but most times i have learned what you gain on top will take from the lower end..... where most of your daily riding is done and enjoyed.

Just got off of the phone this morning with Kurt at Muzzy. We were talking about mods for the 2012. I ran the 08 dead stock but for the K&N filter and I was thinking I might go a different path with my new baby. Just came back from a quick run into northern Cal and back and I have decided to leave well enough alone. I am really pleased with this bike just the way she is. Hit 5218 miles on her today and the new Michelin Pilot Road 3 stick like white on rice.

And I'm not in love with all the burbling at low speed on and off the throttle.

PAIR blockig helped a lot with the Gen1. It's still there but something that you need to get used to if you go to a full system. It is gonna happen if you are off the throttle at 3500 rpm. I love my decel pops. I couldn't handle the BANG but once you get it under control, its cool.

I was thinking of this thread today and it reminded me of the conficts that arise from race performance bikes on the street. The mods have to be modded to make them more streetable or there has to be compromises made between you and your mods LOL ....when they were never intended for street use in the first place. It's kinda funny. Yes, I will say a conflict of interests but it's so much fun. I dig where you guys are coming from but I would NEED to mod my 14r if I had one. I don't care I already know I cant use all the power I have with my Gen1 but so what? I think it's a blast to tinker with and every now and then you can rip it wide open and exploit all that power. You know, maybe only a few times will most of us ever go to full power all the way to the top. I never have done it yet but if I do it once, all the modding is worth it.

For me I don't really want to mod, in fact I've modded enough bikes over the years that I'm getting sick of feeling like wrenches are just extensions of my arms. But at 5000ft up, most bikes are just too slow for me stock. If I don't mod them some for more acceleration, honestly I would get bored and quit riding. My busa is quick enough to keep me interested in riding it, and the turbo 14 is sick fast, a bike I'll own forever. But it would take a VERY strong stock machine to keep me thrilled enough to leave it alone.....although the new 14 does sound like that bike

You can mod a bike without giving up rideability and reliability. My busa has a yoshi pipe with quiet insert, pc, filter, -1/+2 gearing, and calibrated speedohealer, and is as smooth in every way as the stocker. Its almost stock quiet at lower rpms and doesn't sound harsh at all getting on it hard. But it turned what I considered a slug at my elevation into a bike that is fun to ride again. I just did a 120 mile ride through the Sierra's with my wife yesterday, almost all mellow cruising except a couple 150 or so mph runs (which she likes), and the busa performed flawlessly, and still got 41mpg. So smooth she said it was putting her to sleep lol. Same with my 14, for a boosted bike it has stock manners till the boost comes on, and cruises great without being too loud at all. Thats why it was a stage one lower boost street kit only for me. No need for a high-strung, built-engined overpowered hand grenade. Thats not what I needed in a turbo street bike that I don't race. I have a full exhaust on it as well. Even my slammed 1100 isn't too bad, although its one person only and getting some changes I think soon, maybe a new owner? lol.

You can have you're cake and eat it too, you just have to know what you want before you start buying the mods. Brocks pipes are for guys that want serious performance first and foremost. I think sound, smoothness, fuel mileage etc are kinda secondary to the guys who buy brocks. I purposely picked a yoshi R-22 pipe because I got a nice power gain, smooth power throughout, a HUGE weight loss I can REALLY feel, but mostly because its a quiet, pleasant pipe for extended riding, especially with my wife, and looked the best of any pipe I looked at for my red 04LE busa. My 14 turbo kit HAD to have a full exhaust...no way no how was I running dump pipes.

Make good choices on you're mods and you won't have to give up anything
GRN maybe try a quiet insert for your brocks CT before you give up on it completely. You ran those ti-force high mount slip-ons on your blue 07 and said you loved them, and you said they weren't exactly quiet Don't get too picky, there's always a compromise that can be made. Lifes full of ways to compromise to keep yourself happy

Ya...I hear hear ya Black.I'm keeping everything right now....I kinda realize at this point after riding again today back in stock config...that 'lurching deal' actually IS still there....running my stock ECU and all...so they(Kawasaki) found a way to minimize it...yes...but it's still there in a very mild and minimal form. It's cool....The pipes and mapping for the CT's....it's doing the same thing...except...you know...a bit more pronounced with the bigger pipe on there and more flow. It's possible they could map that characteristic out of it...so I'm not dumping my things just yet.I DID really enjoy the briskness of the system...the weight loss...yes.You CAN feel that immediately. That was a definite plus for the whole thing. The Guhl flash is pretty darn close to the performance of the PCV with the Brock's map..even with stock pipes.So...I'm gonna be switching occasionally back and forth with that ECU.That PCV is a very good tool to have available....lots of good maps and stuff being developed right now.

I totally love my 14R...so I'm not dumping anything 'yet'....stock config is so friggin sweet....I could ride all day!Even set all my suspension settings back to 'std' in the manual....very nice...I kinda got carried away with 'changing' things on her. She's quite awesome as is.Best bike I've ever had...the bodywork on this bird is so well thought out...everything fits back together and is nice and snug and all.Very good job from Kawasaki.VERY.

Hmmm....I wonder whats up with all the friggin awesomeness of the sound and improved drivability that everyone touts about aftermarket pipes??? I ran my busa stock and was ok with it. Never had aftermarket pipes on a bike before but contemplating it for the zx14r. Now this post makes me doubt whether I will part with my hard earned cash for some 'cool noise' and extra cojones on the hp.

Don't get me wrong...the system is an excellent mod.The PCV is a good mod....I'm just gonna wait for a while and see what the R&D comes up for the future here.I didn't care for my friend's Alienhead. It was pretty sharp sounding.Loud.Hurt my ears riding behind him on my 07.It was a police trapper for sure.I don't need that,or want it.The CT deal on mine sounds almost exactly like his...so...off it went. But it does flow really well...really well...and weighs WAY less than the stock deal.IDK what was happening really...at first...it seemed to be very smooth and not so 'brash' sounding...I was happy with it.But after riding for about a week or so...it seemed like it was somehow 'changing' in the sound dept and the smooth thing. It kinda acted as if...and I don't think this COULD happen..but...acted as if the ECU was 'trying' to 'get things back to normal'...meaning...the mapping and all got more edgy, and sounding different.IDK what it was...everything was okay as far as I know.

When I removed the system...all the bolts and stuff were nice and tight...so it wasn't like pulling air in somewhere or something. It just got tiring hearing that 'note' throughout the rev range.I use plugs as well...it just got old quickly.Kinda made me feel like I didn't want to ride....and that's not me.

I would think a guy would get more 'used' to the sound and stuff...and that'd be that. But it did seem like 'something' was beginning to occur that I wasn't comfortable with...ran great...except for that.Just 'too much' for me right now.I might reinstall again down the road...we'll see. They do have a 'quiet core' muffler for this set....so I may end up going with that.....IDK.

GRN... the system is a excellent mod.... but you are spending the extra time to get rid of it.

oh i see the noise.... yes that has happen to me a few times....sometimes when you start the bike it's just way to LLLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUDDDDDDDDDDD.

and then all of a sudden the bikes becomes a different animal to deal with.

Grn14 - I have modded every bike that I've owned. The Gen4 10r is really the only one that actually became smoother to ride with the re-flash and pipe. However, I'm not sure I want to do anything to the 14R. I would really like to swap the mufflers for something more balanced and pleasing (subjective for sure) but the bike, unless your racing, does not need any more power ( I can't believe I'm saying this) in my view. A real dilemma and your post just drives this point home to me. Like you, I'll wait and see what other options become available.

Pipe = Improves power. Less gas pulling more weight. Cat savvy still flows with a bigger header diameter as if, using thin diameter pipe size. Smooth and bitty, you choose the short crossover tubes connecting front headers. None connectors are for WOT work down the 1320. Connectors more smooths the pulse out; coming out of corners. You'll see yo-she welds those in for the more RR oriented pipe design.

Pig = Improves power. Less gas pulling more weight. Lots of options to this setup. Smooths the pulse. Unlimited power advantage. Improves overall drive-ability. Improves mileage.

Con:

Pipe = Way to many out there; Can lose HP is a variable. Can change the torque curve to a new rpm setting. Can make you all pissy upset as if you lost the gear window. Drones in the ear; May or may not cause fatigue. If you enjoy the note, do not want miss every beat, you are built for pipe. A pipe is like a snowflake. One will pull a higher number than the other. As little that move is, it is a variable is why you bought the part.

Pig = As with the pipe, the map too is a black art. Get that wrong, the gas pumps need to be close. Get it right, you can pour what you gained, meaning, you can measure that extra cash in your wallet fold you select the correct lean on all those rubicubes grid spots. If you do not cover the dark over snowflake, knit its own blanket, how do they say it in france? Fuckit? Why you bought this was to match the pipe you have. Snowflake both units back to base. That means, bring the mods back to the linear, not the stumbles here, stumbles there. There it is! That forum looks like a pile of maps sitting there.

Pisser: 'Hi, my name Is Mapiss Crap Is. I thought I might bump dis post up to the top again. Say, you got a map to knowear?'

"Slider? You Stink!' = Someone Needs to attend a pc class from powercommander, i.e., the piggy sellers. If you can't follow their directions; If you do not take the time to X the Y factors, you are pissing in a windstorm.

Good explanation there.I'm keeping the stuff right now...may even put it back on there in a while...IDK.IF I can do something about the sound...I may reinstall this year or something. The droning was wearing on me...for sure. And it does reveal every rpm in the book! You cruise on this bike at anywhere between 4K and 6k...in whatever gear...but that range...the pipe is letting you know...."I'm friggin fast"!!!!The cruise ranges with this bike are somewhat different than the previous ones.
