Price Reduction
10/07/11 3:25 PM

With the '12 model being previewed Monday here in Orlando (florida). Bikes are up for sale like snickers.. Ive been noticing some "stealerships" around town posting up bikes for sale. 09's for mid to high 8's. I really like the 07 (se) or the 09 (se) do you guys think this is a good price? Or should I go buy private owner. (bad expierence with that) This coming monday the new models will be unveiled which should make the prices drop more..? Plz ring in with some advice and let me know what you guys think? Im thinkin if I buy from dealership making them setup my suspension right then and there before I ride off.. I hear good things about the 07 models, but for prefrence its going to come down to color. I like the white( fav. color) and I like the B & O.

I had some of those same thoughts when purchasing my bike. Then I came across a mint 2006 with 9,500 miles. The bike was all stock(which was a plus to me), and a deal that I couldn't pass up. Even if prices drop,(and I think they will) then I feel like the prices will level back off. I have seen this happen on the 2012 Gold Wing, and think it will be the case with the zx14 as well. That is even sort of what happened in 2008 when the new Busa came out. Resale on the previous models is still pretty good. JMHO

Blacklighting... If you go to the link, most of those are set up stock for the most part just with exhaust.. Which is what I want. I feel as if the prices will drop and will continue from Now until Jan. (winter) biketoberfest is here next week from the 10th-14th but after that I think they will drop a little more. And with the unveiling of new bike. I want to use that as a negotiation war. Does anyone have advice and tips on how to negotiate with stealerships.?

Thanks for all the help..

I wouldn't let any tech at any dealership set up my suspension. Find a shop that is known for suspension tuning and bring it to them. Your more than likely going to ride away on a worse than from factory tuned suspension letting them dealership simpletons adjust your suspension.

My advice would be to purchase privately. Just picked up my 07 last month for $6000. It has 7100 miles on it...

Does anyone have advice and tips on how to negotiate with stealerships.?

If you have cash bring it with you, flash it but don't give it to them the same day. Try to find out when those salesman are evaluated and show up a couple of days before that. Don't go to the over confident guy go to the weakest link the guy desperate for a sale. Whatever they have make sure to tell them this is not really what you want but....
For every good point the salesman brings, bring something negative.
Example: Salesman: " The ZX 14 is comfortable and super fast"
You : " Yeah but she gets real hot and she's heavy"
loool

Tell them you like the price but the bank won't give you enough or the wify told you 1000 cheaper or no deal. More importantly though do your homework and check the bike thoroughly. When they couldn't lower the price on mine anymore which I think they could... I asked them for a free $300 leather jacket.
Don't be nice to them because they won't sell you the bike unless they can make some money on it. Like you said this is war loool Good luck and post some pics when you get her home!

BrianK... I agree on that. Stealerships I have heard will tank your bike, and make u bring it back for repair. If i buy privately I will be gettin bikes in a color I dont want 1st choice.. (Blue, Red, or Black) Im in fla. And having all blacked out vehicles it gets HOT!! But im thinkin it. The private sellers are listing at 6-6500k for like 5000 06.. But ugh decisions, decisions...

Dragking... Definately thinking along those line. Thinking of telling them you have to give me this if you want to me leave with it today. Its been sitting for a moment. I looked at it when the original owner was trying to sell it. Hard times came up and I couldnt buy it at the time. He took it to the dealership since he was needing the money. He had the dealership buy it from him. He had it listed 4 6500 and they have had it over 4 months and they went from 7850 and now they have it listed at 6999. But aftr fees i know its going to be 7300. So i might try to rob them of it and tell them 6700 selling price 7 otd.. The se 09 is in another town and priced wrong; and I can get a stretch, brocks ct, bottle on it for 300 less. Idk just got to choose. Will be making the purchase w/in the next week after biketoberfest.. But thanks. Ive already been thinking of things to tell him.. Temp, scratches, rear cowling blah blah...

I bought my black 06 with barely 3k miles and D&D slip ons for about $6800 when you subtract the leather jacket price, she had been sitting there for a month or so they're was another 10 hours from me: an 07 with 5k miles and muzzy slip ons for $7500. That was more than 1 year ago and there wasn't a new 14 coming out at the time. I wouldn't put more than $6000 in an 06 and she would have to be in REALLY good condition. DogoZX got his brand new 08 (I think) as a leftover for $8000 and I saw an 09 leftover busa at my dealership ummm ummm sorry stealership for the same price last year. As long as you can control your urge and be patient you'll find a good deal. BTW I don't think that guy got more than $5500 for his 14 so do them like they did him.

Ditto what dragking says - bring CASH to the table! Also, waiting until after the 2012 ZX14R appears and might be a good tactic - I figure you'll catch more than a few deals from guys trying to build up some cash before plunking down on the new ride... jm2c...

Dragking, most definately. I think if i go for the 07 i will talk shit about how they havent moved it in the past months and if they want to move it they have to let me have it at a certain price. Otd+ttl... I only like the 07 bc of the color and would strip it of the flames.. I want it.
But if you look at the 09 its set up w/ brocks cts, stretched, yatta yatta. For only 9 otd.. I will be making the purchase. Just 2nd guess if not to buy a cheap one and put in mods. Never bought from a dealership just heard how they overcharge, and steal. Im going to have to take someone that is experienced with it. Steal from the "stealers"

I posted elsewhere I'm seeing 2011 ZX11s with 0 miles (on showroom floors) being offered for $10,000.

Another few weeks, that figure might come down more. Or it might not. So much depends on what announcement Kawk actually makes.

My dealer will show me the spec sheets Kawk is handing out to the dealers-only show this weekend, where they are letting the dealers have first looks at the 2012 bikes, when they all get back into town next week.

Fatboy: All you hope reside in the success of the new 14! If that bird kick ass, I can see the market being flooded with Busas and older 14's. Which is going to be a really good thing for you. I was as exited as you when I went to the dealership so I know you don't want to wait any longer. That being said Mid november will be a good time to buy... it's going to take time for the dealers to get the new 14 in stock, when they do... it's rare for them to get a lot... 14's don't sell fast.

DK... Uve definitely been where I am at now. I feel its a must to buy and I know the prices are sure to drop soon. The only reason I am buggin is bc of the new unveiling of the 14r, and I want to get on 1. Got rid of the 1k, and been bike less for about 2 months, and it sucks. Here in FLA we have yr around weather. Def. going to have to wait to see. Its just hard, bargains are starting to pop everywhere, the only thing is im picky about color, miles, and negotiating price. Stealerships wont negotiate particularly, unless u walk in cash. I plan on cashiers check from bank. But i want to use the xtra $ for mods obvi..
I hate waiting, and I hate time...

If you find a brand new bike with 0 miles for 8 grand there is no reason to buy(er beware) from a private party unless they are selling for $4000 and low miles. Over 10,000 miles, I'd offer a couple grand and leave my name & phone number I can best be reached at. Tell em your thinking about buying a brand new one for about 2/3 what they paid 4 years ago.

My bike is worth less than my mods right now. Reality. You pay to have the latest but it's worth jack a couple years down the road.

I wouldn't let any tech at any dealership set up my suspension.

+1

Unless they have a great reputation for mech work, buy it and get TF out of there. I never had my dealer do anything but mount tires and they didn't do a good job at that. Business fast quick in and out. They usually don't do good work. I'd almost count on a dealership skipping over and overlooking stuff on a routine basis.

You can do everything you need to do to your 14 for about $100 of tools. Second year, you will be investing a few hundred more. You will still come out ahead in $$$ and you will do a much better job.

Just ask what your stealer charges for a oil change with oil and filter (if they actually change it). Make sure you are sitting down when they tell you.

Rook..Exactly my man. Ur thinking exactly how I have been thinking. I know what you can do to bikes. Buy OEM to replace them and then wa-la.. Its fixed. Ya i found a couple private owner 5k miles guy wants 65 or so. I was figuring to offer like a general offer and tell him if he doesnt want it I will walk since in this economy no one is making purchases this close to holidays. Listening to some of the responses I have been hearing definately have a few plans up my sleeve.

Dk.. what deals look the best 2 u?

If you know your way well around a bike or know somebody that could go with you, buy private by all means. If not go to a stealership with a good rep so even that if you don't get a warranty and something major goes bad, you can go back and threatened to raise hell if they don't fix it for free. Getting a bike with a few mods is tempting but..... If I see a bike with my mods i.e. flies out, full exhaust and power commander, etc I'm going to be extra careful cause those are the bike which get ridden close to the limit. My bike is in excellent condition but I'm just saying. The swingarm is what would get my attention the most because it would mean Drag races which are really stressful for the motor. That being said lots of guy keep the spare parts and put them back before they sell! What I like to see is stuff like givi bags, heli risers etc because it means the bike was mostly used for long cruise.

Most importantly, remember that right now, it is a buyer market, take your time, get the color you want and get a fair price. Like you said you can ride all year right? So time is on your side. What I wouldn't get is a 2011! The new 1 is coming out! Ok maybe if it's brand new at a leftover price. For an 06-07 in good condition no more than $6k. Again mods are cool but they are a seller loss. I'm not paying for somebody mods. If I'm, maybe 25 cents on the dollars at the most. Meaning a good 06 ZX14 with CT duals should be no more that $6500. That's why it is always better to take the parts off and sell them individually.

You should link up with Cooter it could help you find some good deals!

Good Luck Buddy
