Brake light wire please :-)
02/29/16 7:36 PM

Hi Guys
I want to connect an additional led brake light to my 2013 zx14r.
Can someone direct me please, what's the easiest wire to connect to?
Thanks Lots Maddy :-)
Oh, the relay and box is for my heated grips ignition connection :-)

If you saw the wiring on my bike, I never pinch/cut/tamper with the OE wire harness. I piggyback off a hot wire with an extra "tongue clip?' I don't know the exact term, maybe try 'butt slice connector' to see the male/female setup, not a male/male wire end connector. That type male/female clip can be piggyback off of say the green connector there with the 2 red female connectors. So, if there was this extra male tongue you add another red female clip to it, etc. Try an automotive or electronics store for that add-on that the male and female clips to. So that clip now is piggy'd off the hot relay wire. With a star washer, star being pointed spikes around the washer so when you tighten the start washer, it crushes past the paint, into the raw metal to make a ground. So the ground is under the seat lock base bolt at the back of the frame. That's where you see the spring loaded set pin being held with both those 6mm bolts. Use that as the ground with the eyelet fitting at the end of brake wire, the female clip on the hot side of the brake light.

If it's a brake light, you will need to piggy into the same female conector that the brake light switch is attached to. You can crimp more than one wire into the same male contact. I have both my tag light and Autotune males connected in this way to the tag light female conector. Works fine as long as there is not too much current draw for the fuse. Double up, slide them in and tape it so they can't pull out. You will have to do some jumper wiring off of the male conector somehow so that you have just the two wires sticking out. crimp some small flat contacts on the wires and they are ready to piggy into the female. Have a look at step 13 and few preceding steps for ideas:

both auto tune and tag light wires are crimped + and crimped - then slide into the tag light + and - female.

You just need to find the connector leads for the front brake light switch to the brake light. I do not know if there are connector leads for the front bake or if it is just a solid wire from the brake lever perch to the tail light. The rear brake light switch is easy to find so you could do that one. See step 3 here (this is gen1 but I'm sure gen2 is same)

All this talk about male and female and two on one and not a single inuendo. You're welcome.

I was thinking direct hot hookup, not off the brake switch. So either pig/backprobe at the brake switch coming up the right side where the switch and foot brake pedal are. Pig off of the taillight connector. One is running light(no) one is ground(you could pig off that) the other is the brake signal wire at the foot switch.

If you trace the brake wire back along the body work next to the subframe you will find the plug in for the harness to the brake light and you don't have to splice in at the tail light. you would only have to remove a side panel to make your connection.

1. Tube of amazing goop glue.
2. Solder the wire end so all the wires are melted in the solder.
3. Go to back brake light wire and begin to access how much filing down the wire end is needed to back-probe into the back of the connector. Does not matter which side you use.
4. Have a test light ready so you can turn the key on, prong to who is running.
5. Step on the back brake, probe the other 2 wires so you know one is brake the other is ground.
6. Stick the hot accy brake wire in the back of the brake light connector. Jam that in real good and tight. Goop even the solder that is sticking out so no need for taping an exposed wire. Let it setup.
7. Jam the ground wire in the back of the connector and goop that to stay. No tape needed. You want to remove that accy brake light, pull the wires out, peel off the excess glue = No one could tell you tapped off the OE harness. This is my MO tapping off of the OE harness.
