Videos are up now at the Ride Report. Thanks Dogo! The trip was great, it rained on us on Monday so we stopped at Leggitt at a little private motel, where I promptly bailed in the driveway in the gravel tossing my wife and her white jacket into a mud puddle. It rained all night but quit the next morning so we rode the Avenue of the Giants with wet roads but absolutely no traffic. Headed through Eureka to Arcata where we turned east on Hwy 299 which goes up over the mountains and then follows the Trinity River. Of course it rained again all the way over the top of the mountains! Got to Redding and the sun was out. Started toward Lassen park ,but looking ahead I saw clouds and tons of SNOW!!! Backtracked to Red Bluff then east on 36 to Lake Almanor where we got a lake front room. The next day we went South on Hwy 89 through Quincy and Graeagle to the Gold Lake Hwy. Stopped at my old fishing grounds at Sardine Lake for some pics. Then on to Truckee, over the summit to North Shore Lake Tahoe. Rode around the west shore until we were stopped by road work. So, of course I moved to the head of the line,( heh heh). When they let us go a Forest Ranger was the only vehicle in front of us so I prepared for a slow, boring ride...WRONG!! Ranger Rick hauled ASS with us on his tail all the way around to South Shore.
Stayed for 2 days at the Pine Cone Motel, had a nice dinner at the grill at Camp Richardson on the lake. Expensive but good food. Friday we packed up and headed out on Hwy 88 over Kit Carson pass, topping out at just over 8000 feet. Then down to Hwy 49, Jamestown and home. All in all it was a super fun ride, very little traffic, mostly good weather, outstanding scenery and good times for all. Pics coming soon. I plan on doing it again next year, possibly all the way to Crater Lake, OR.
