Hey all-Ever notice at the place where the Tank Cover connects to the frame(on the side at the metal tab area),and where the Midfairing connects to the frame?(At the same point).I was just browsing some of you're guy's pictures.MOST have a noticeable gap OR misalignment of the mating surfaces right there(mine certainly did). Here's a little tip for ya-in case you didn't know...........if you install the tank cover piece FIRST on the metal tab there, then install the Midfairing tab OVER that tab,(the MIDFAIRING fairing has a small, maybe 1/16th of an inch little angle on it's edge there(going towards the front of the bike),the two will line up perfectly, and will appear almost connected..You can see it when you remove the cover. That angle is designed to go UNDER the COVER edge as it butts up against the cover fairing. If you install the Midfairing FIRST(over the tab)the height if the plastic over the metal tab there will cause the cover fairing tab to sit above the the edge just a bit-enough to cause the joint to NOT line up smoothly.Just thought I'd share that with ya-I hate it when things don't LOOK RIGHT!(on my bike that is).If you have a manual-look on pg3-124.2nd picture. It shows the fuel tank cover tab GOING ON LAST...Things will fit better if that tab GOES ON FIRST.To avoid having a gap, slightly adjust(by bending downward just a hair)the metal screw bracket.Install the cover on there AFTER you get the midfairing hooked up(but not completely fastened(with the plastic pieces that push into the fairing holes) to your bike.Pull out on the midfairing right at the tab, slide the cover tab under(don't fasten anything yet)and put the midfairing tab OVER the cover tab. Then push in the pointy nibs into their holes in the fairing, and finish aligning and assembling. You can get an even BETTER fit of parts in there(the ram duct covers)if you'll experiment with the height of the metal screw bracket. If you lower it slightly, when you install the duct cover, the tip will fit nicely flush with the bodywork right there, and you can lightly file off just a smidgen of the plastic at the screw hole, and bring it down even further.Holding a bic lighter under the tip of that piece and bending that corner down slightly will give you a very nice appearing fitment right there.Just don't hold the flame ON THE EDGE of the piece-it will try to melt right there-you don't want that.Hold the flame under and back right around an inch or so around that tip.Not long, just enough to soften it a bit.Another little tip-on the midfairing tab,if you file off about a centimeter(or less)on the tip of the plastic tab, then file an angle UNDER the tip(angle going from thick to thin at the tip),it will fit the round screw bracket much easier, and hold the cover tab on there better when you go to tighten the phillips screw. You don't want those tabs popping off the bracket when you're installing the duct cover screw there.Once the phillips screw is in there,it will push down on the tabs-they must be flush with the duct cover fitment.
