There's more polyrhythmic and odd time signature drumming in this single piece
than in all the music you've ever listened to combined!
The fact that you can't sing along while driving in your car to work doesn't necessarily
warrant the label "noise" IMHO.

Sounds like hate music too. No matter the name of the band the "singer" always sounds the same...just screaming his guts out and wants to kill everything in his sight.
But....I should've said at the end of my first post "to each their own". Though I wouldn't let either of my sons bring that garbage home.

I have to say that Sabbath with Ozzy and ACDC will not make my top 500 bands,
that garbage only belongs on the lame local Classic Rock radio stations IMHO.

And I admit- what people like and dislike in regards to music is one of my favorite topics
and areas of interest.
Put it this way- is the music that someone likes indeed good music
or is it just the music that an ignorant consumer relates to and enjoys?

What influence have they contributed? The so called vocalist just screams everything out like one long continuing word. He sounds EXACTLY like the rest of the death metal crowd. That's all it is, screaming about death and how fucked up the whole world is but not offering anything to fix it.
They shake their heads up and down and take the same old stance while playing their guitars. Trying to look like bad asses and impress a bunch of mostly young males by adding to their anger and hatred about everything. Great message they have to share. I'm sure a video about some fool crawling on the ground with black shit all over him and close ups of cockroaches will impress them even further.
It's noise allright. And you have no idea how much music I've listened to in my life. But if that's what polyrhythmic and odd time signature drumming sounds like then you can have it. Sounds like they recorded the drummer for 3 seconds and then just replayed it again and again. Like someone dropped a bearing in a garbage disposal. Comparing him to Ward or Bonham is a joke.
To each their own, sure. But don't try to bring down groups that are obviously better than a group you like.

I'm not a huge fan of the like - Testament, Sepeltura, Dethklok, Clutch, etc., but I don't hate it. If one were to peek into my collection, you'd most likely find some of the most diversified of any other collection. I tend to find most music has some desirable trait or eclecticism I find appealing. When I'm weekend riding, you'll usually find the following bands in my playlist:

The list is shortened/lengthened depending on the length of the ride. Some other pop-ish stuff might find its way on the iPhone as the mood strikes - stuff that moves me like Crazy, Bittersweet Symphony, you get the idea. Hell, I've even been known to put some fast-paced country on the iPhone and I'm not a huge fan of it.

Hay Mass, Im nealy 50 into the middle of the road acustic rock as my age would suggest, my son come out with this song by Ramstien called buck dich a few years ago, didn't think I would like a song like that, had to say to him I was wrong.
Not my seen but can see the creative work in the music. a little goes a long way.

I love all music , but spend a lot of time with Tool, system,and I even like Godsmack If the guys can f-n play then I love it Yes, jethro-tull, primus when I ride I love to listen it makes my rides that much more fun my list gose into jazz-fusion as well and all the greats that come to my city that give there time for my pleasure...

Meshughah is insane! Great band IMO. I'm also a big fan of Lamb of God, Shadows Fall and the new In this Moment cd. Bad ass music makes for a bad ass ride. \m/ Get your horns up! \m/

I would just say that the argument of how certain bands "influenced" people and generations will not stand a minute!
Let's face it- Madonna and U2 have "influenced" probably even more people than Sabbath.

The other common argument is how a certain band is a "part of music history".
That one is even weaker IMHO.

I didn't mean to get everybody hung up on Meshuggah- in my book it's somewhat identical to say... Dave Mathew's band,
both bands are backed by some killer drumming and both are certainly not very pleasant to listen to.
I guess I might have given up on passing judgement on what is good music and concentrate more attention on trying to recognize talent and good and/or intricate musicianship.

As far as "oldies" bands- Rush, Zappa, Deep Purple, The Police is more my cup of tea,
and Sabbath with Dio!
