Exhaust Decision?
07/01/11 9:11 AM

This is not what you think. I am not asking what kind of exhaust is the best. I purchased my ZX14 from RuffRyda on this board. The bike came with the Micron Serpent system on it. He did however give me the stock exhaust and headers. I have been thinking about putting the stock headers back on and getting some dual slipons. I just seem to like the look of the dual exhaust on the 14 than single. So would taking off a good full system be stupid for the sake of cosmetics. I was considering the Brocks dual exhaust, but 2k is just insane in my eyes. That's a 1/3 of what I paid for the bike.

Could be. I have a Micron Serpent on my 14, and I love it. -bg

Dunno. CT-Duals do indeed tip the $2k scale. But for the added horsepower, how many people spend more than $2k to get that added horsepower, not to mention the SWEET exhaust notes, and smokin' appearance?

I agree though, too much $ for some. You could get a pair of Brock's CT mufflers 'cause they sell them as slip ons now.

Didn't know they sold them as slipons. I only considered brocks because they seem to be the only dual full exhaust. Other wise I was thinking of Akra slip ons in carbon.

I wouldn't call it stupid. For me however, performance comes first and a part of that is accepting the asymmetrical look of a single pipe. That was something that bothered me as it seems to be bothering you. I deliberated a long time before deciding 4-2-1 was the best way to go for a fast bike. There is poser cool looking bikes and then there is genuine race cool looking bikes. I have developed a taste for the race look . Not always so pretty as the bike night beauties but friggin' badass as all hell, IMO.

I was considering the Brocks dual exhaust, but 2k is just insane in my eyes. That's a 1/3 of what I paid for the bike.

You can go with brocks duals and have the best of both worlds. He has a very nice CT single and an even nicer CT meg. You go with the lightest and the most hp. Any comparable full system will cost 2K like Brock's does. Akrapovic Evo will be about 2K too, I believe. I totally see the logic in finding 33% of the price of the bike too extravagant to spend on an exhaust. So too would be spending 2K on a set of carrozeria wheels. However, those are the two best mods you can do short of turbo (10K).

To me, a stock bike is not exciting any more and I would rather not own a stock bike unless it was brand new and mods were in the planing stage. We each have our line we draw. If you choose to stay on the stock side, you will save a lot of money. You won't really know what your bikes potential is. The dif between full system abd stock pipes is DRAMATIC and worth the 2K IMO.

I hear ya. Still debate that in my head. For now though I went with the Muzzys carbon dual slip ons. I got a smokin deal on a used pair (could barely tell they were) from a different forum. I am very happy so far. I love the look, performance improvement and weight loss all worth it. I will be looking for a custom map soon for the PCIII. All in all a great compromise and decision until I can afford the Brocks..... Just my 2 cents.

I often wonder why most bag the slipons? OK going a "Full System is obviously the "No. 1" But my Twin Leovince Cans with PCV/Dyno Have put out 164 rwhp as is! 10hp over Stock ! Im getting Jeffo to send me out a map due to the Poor Mans Full System now with 2010 Catless Header as shes running quite a bit Richer since I got that Massive CAT Heating element out of the Header (I lost nearly 8 kg too), IMO right or wrong im estimating it to be 169-174rwhp after. If so time will tell as I think im closer to be able to find out for sure Later on "Lees Spot On Dynojet" all im getting at in Hindsight this would have only cost me about $600 Total. In the end of the day my 04 CBR1100xx in it's day was Concidered a "Hyposonic Sports Tourer" after a few Mods putting out 124rwhp! then based on the 164rwhp of my ZX14 now, Thats 1/3rd more RWHP than the BB! Man when ya think of where ya can use that amount of Power ! it's fairly Insane for a "Street Legal Machine" Hell the BB had plenty of power for most things it could kill 90% of most Good riders and this ZX14 is 33% more Powerful! don't get me wrong im as Mad as a Cut Snake compared with most of my Riding buddies

I deliberated a long time before deciding 4-2-1 was the best way to go for a fast bike. There is poser cool looking bikes and then there is genuine race cool looking bikes.
I dont think theirs Many Places at all where My Weaker ZX14 LOL can be used to it's "Full" potential. Oh yeh she Sounds not much Loader without the Cat about 105 db but boy O boy it's a Really Deep Thunder Ground Shaking Sound now ! just my

I'm in the same boat, love the look of the duals and want a full system rather than slips.
Had a brock's system on my busa and they put out a great product...so when I got the 14 the dual ct system
caught my eye. Then I was like WTF $2K I have the cash but damn!! What pisses me of is everytime I log on their site
all the other ct systems are on sale but never the 14's lets do a group buy.
