2007 vs. 2009
11/09/12 11:51 PM

Hey,
I have the opportunity to buy a black 2007 zx14 with 7k miles in new condition for $6500 from a personal owner.
On the other hand, I can buy an orange and black 2009 zx14 with 700 miles in new condition; the owner has it listed that they want around $8500 or $9000. A jacket and helmet is included with the 09.
Both bikes are completly stock and the 07 is firm on the price. The 09 might come down on the price some because it is over blue book value.
My question is, what is the better buy or are they the same.

Thanks

Both are OK deals, but I like the '09. I looked for one like that before I bought my CPB '07.

I believe the '09 has an improved tune which opens the flys earlier, the downside, triple catalysts. One in the header and one each in the mufflers.

The '07 only has catalysts in the mufflers.

Don't care about the tuning differences, I just love the metalflake orange and sparkle black paint combo. Would be fun to ride into a group of Hardly Abelsons since orange and black are their factory racing colors.

The $2K difference would buy alot of goodies for the 07.

The 2009 zx14 seller is firm at $9k. The dealer explaned to me that 600 miles might mean that it hasn't been riden enough to keep parts lubricated. What's your take on his observation?

I have not seen the burnt orange and black in person but I heard that it is spectacular. But I do think a black bike can be made to look mean although the black is sooo common...

Hey I have the 2009 model. I dont see anybody with one where I am located. I might have seen 2 on the road in the whole 2 years Ive had it. I got mine on a smoking May sale at the dealership. I got it brand new in June 2012, for $9800. I fell in love with it. I rode it stock for about 4,000 miles then put some slip on M4s and still riding. Now I have a little over 12,000 miles on it. Make sure you get the diablo ange tires. Iv gone through 3 back tires before I got a good set of tires. Ive done the oil change everytime it needed it and kept it moving. Get the 09. Its rare. If you want to be different like me then the 09 isthe way to go.

That's a bullshit argument if you ask me! The only thing that worries me is really low mileage. I bought my 06 for about 7k with 3000 miles and D&D slip ons. 600 is really low so I would try to find out why the seller is getting rid of it. That being said lots of guys think they have the balls to seat on 1400cc and scare themselves. If everything checks out, buy it!

I was so scared of mine (first bike) that I didn't take it out of the garage after bringing it home. A week later I brought it to a parking a lot to get a feel of it lol
My first map was made to improve gas mileage not power lol

Now that's more like it

Good luck with the buy!

I offered but they will not give. It's a husband and wife with a pair of big bikes. He has a busa and She has the zx14. The busa has over 2k miles on it. They are a liitle older and want to sell them both but do not need the doe. Kelley Blue Book is at 8k but NADA is between 7k+ - $9500. A couple has sold on ebay for 7500+ both with slip on's. I'm trying to hold out on the best deal possible.
That black does look wicked, has anyone seen a wicked looking orange and black.

Black & Orange is one of my favorite with titanium and the 2010 special edition (black, silver).
You can never tell for sure but the story is sound and the fact that they don't want to lower the price is a good sign. Plus you get a jacket and a helmet! Do they live far. Go check the bike out!

Go on you tube and type in Zx14 and see what different models look likr. Thats what I did before I even bought mine. They have different pipes and they rev the motor up so you can see what each pipe sound like. Its a bit different sound on the computer than in person, but you damn sure can tell the difference between an M4 and a yoshi. Dude I was go bck and forth on which pipe to get. They have some black and orange ones with a voo doo pipe. That looks sweet. Just check out youtube.

Rodeo...I have the black and orange SE bought brand new in 2009 V&H CS1s slipons. IMO its such a unique color scheme (must c it person). I ride with a group with panigales, RR1000's and 1 KTM all super nice bikes (I'm too big for them at 6'4" 240lb) but my big ninja gets it share of attention. Engine wise the guys here pretty much covered it. I am so tempted to upgrade to the 2013 White ZX14R for power plus bells and whistles but even with 25K miles on my current bike its the color that keeps me saying no. With now hearing early Gen 14 riders hitting the 100k mile I prob keeps her........

nice!
My mods is what keeps me from upgrading... she' down on power from newer models but she fits me like a glove! Like shogun said they're still running good after 100k so I would like to take mine well pass 50k before upgrading (21 k now).

All things considered I would nab the 07. And after you get accustomed to the bike decide which mods you want.
The first being fly removal and adding a PCIII and custom map for the 07. a few hundred bucks.

Dont think there is enough difference between the 2 years for the $2000 difference.
Forget resale value as a issue. There will not be enough resale in 2 yrs to cover the $2k.
Even if you dont put any miles on the 09, Japanese bikes have little resale. Sorry, just the way it is.
The mileage is really not a issue either. 3000 miles is nothing. And the 09's lack of use isnt either.

I am in the same boat as dragking.
I have so much in building my 06 to suit Me that its not worth it to consider a new 14R or any other year.

I would guess it comes down to if you consider the Burnt Orange worth $2k more than the Black. Because resale, various small differences between the yrs and difference in miles between the 2 bikes dont add up to $2k in my opinion.

RE: 2007 vs. 2009

Great advice! A couple of years ago I thought the orange and black was the coolest color scheme. This year I saw a black zx14 online with chrome in all the perfect places. The black was mean looking. Here in Tennessee I very seldom see a zx14, I have riden my nephews green 2012 zx14, and it is a monster.
I was told ny the dealer that the 06 and 07's are basically the same; and the 08-11 are the same with improvements over the first models. Also, they said the later models can be the equal to the 2012 by adding pcIII with map and an air kit. My thing is that the $2500 will achieve a lot in performance and aesthetics, skiffman pointed that out. I would like to see the 09 all dolled up to see if it looks as nice as the black. The $2500 is more than some custom paint jobs; or it can go towards another bike. I guess I need for one to be sold so I can buy the other.
Sorry guys, I like to be different and look good.
HELP!!!!

Your dealer is either misinformed, ignorant or a liar about a few simple mods making the Gen 1's the equal of the 14R.
That said, we mere mortals will rarely need the extra displacement of the 14R anyplace besides the drag strip.

Depending on what you do with your bike $2500 equals;
Performance
A full race system and fuel system
modified suspension
rearsets

Touring;
Givi hardbags
Aftermarket seat
bar risers or Spiegler bars
Tall ZG screen
Lowered pegs
heavier springs for shock & forks
Plus enough cash for a good trip. or used slipons

I'm not into the bling machines but $2k would buy lots of SHINY!!!

I noticed over the years many guys were satisfied with stock suspension. The early models were too lightly sprung for anything but 150 lb riders. I destroyed the stock stuff early doing trackdays. I feel 2-up riding would quickly do the same.

Skiffman, you make darn good sense. It's about the best deal for the money. I'm going to see the 07 black soon and I have recently run across another burnt orange with a full voodoo exhaust, custom lite kit, but the mileage is not listed.
Thanks

Orange and black is my favorite color on the ZX-14. Almost bought one earlier this year, but the seller didn't have the title, (still owed money to the bank.)
