Up-date on wrecked 14
02/19/10 8:59 PM

BIG RED HAS BEEN TOTALED.... I cant believe this beauty with 4.3K miles is salvage. Not sure what to do, but it doesnt make much sense to buy back an 06 and end up with a salvage titled vehicle. Insurance company is offering 8.1K, a new 2009, (clear title) is 10K.

I guess there is no price for sentimental value!

What would you guys do?

I was actually in the same predicament you were in. I got an '09. The '10's are almost 2 grand more and they're identical except for the color scheme.

I've put her picture up in the rotation at the top of the forums so you'll have something to remember her by. -bg

Go for an 08 if you can find one in dealer stock. If you're picky, you might nit want to have a local dealer ship a 2 year old, uncrated bike. Was it sitting with gas/oil in it?? Will it be scratched up??? You have to put 1000 down before the shipping.

go for the new one if you want problem free operations but find out how much the buy back is on her it maybe like 1000 and you could part out some and make up any difference on the cost of a new one. Just look at ebay people are making good money parting-out their bikes there is money to be made or at the least you might want to use it as a Drag bike only a few parts here and there Just a lil food for thought trust me when I say they will let it go for like 1000-1200 or less if the frame has one scratch on it say used pc3 150 -170 rim 175-200 motor 900-2000 you get the idea let her keep workin for ya even though she is gone to the lil ninja heaven in the sky

BRILLIANT XXXSES! I was up half of the night deliberating over what to do.
The dilema; I could easily put her back together again but when I'm done, I will still have a four year old with salvage title, it will be greatly devalued.

I want to have a ZX14, so this seems to be the best option! I can pull all my favorite parts and carry them forward to either a new 08 or 09. Sell the rest and make some money back to pay for the difference.

Do you you guys know if the 08 and 09 are common to the 06? Power commnder, TRE, speedoheeler, heli bars, screen, steel brsided lines, ect.,?

Thanks to everyone for there input, a BIG thanks to XXXXSES for the best idea yet. This is an option I can live with.

ROMANS - Do you still have the Marchesini's?

I think with the '09's, you don't have to take the flies out from what I've read. The dyno numbers on an '09 before and after the Power Commander prove it improves bhp/torque and even more so if you have a full exhaust system installed. Other than that, I think they're pretty much the same. Personally, I'd really like to know specific differences between the years - ideally in a spreadsheet or something. For me, I couldn't be sure if the frame was trustworthy after the wreck as mine flipped and landed twice (first time it landed on me).

loaded you are correct 08 &09 do not need flies removed. 08 thru 2010 are all the same just different color schemes

Did you give your title to the insurance people yet? If not you still have a green title bike. My friend crashed his F4i couple of years ago, ins. totaled it, he bought it back for next to nothing and the title never left his hand. Insurance never sent him any notifacation that he had to retitle the bike and they never retitled it either, he made out like a bandit. Only thing wrong with the bike was it needed all left side plastics and a shifter lever. If its only cosmetic damage fix the sucker :)

You would have to strip the bike down to the bare frame. Laser the corner points square to the neck. You see a wrinkle in that neck, you'll brittle it back square is not me! Steel tube frame, maybe. I would not feel confident if that bike is bent.

The: upper/lower/tubes/front axle are a given. Take a coat hanger and bend it, then straighten it back out. See the "S" bend in it? Same effect you re-bend the fork tubes or the lower crown, especially. Nothing looks straight but the bars off to one side she is that bent you did not get it all.

hey man no problem just remember if you deside to part it out post it here as well and keep your options open you may find some one that will take it off your hands for a good profit on the buy back and just a thought here I say remember that what your selling is not gold keep it cheap and you'll get more bidders that way and you are gonna make someone happy at the same time...xxx's

xxxses sez...

Just look at ebay people are making good money parting-out their bikes

Actually, what you see are the people trying to sell parts. The parts at bargain prices are already gone LOL!

Somewhere along the line people got the idea that you could get max resale bucks by selling on E-bay. I sold some parts on E-bay and had to keep lowering the price until I sold. And some parts never sold even at good prices. I'm not trying to discourage you cause xxxses is right. You can make money just don't be greedy. What you're left with is a stripped down street fighter you don't have to worry about scratching.[img]/images/emoticons/motorbikesmilie.gif[/img

Oh... and get the new bike too!!!
