Touring tires on our 14's
08/20/11 10:41 PM

I do ALOT of straight road commuting back and forth from work. I want to get as many miles as possible out of tires when I change mine out here soon. Is there a tire that is known to be an exceptionally good touring tire? I seen some Metzeler ME 880 Marathon that looked pretty good but im sure there are some out there are better for touring. Can someone give me their opinion on touring tires they have had on their 14?

It get at least 6k out of my pilot powers. Did 7300 on one rear.Fronts are quite a bit more, I keep better track of the rears for some reason. Still have the stickiness to hit the twisities without any worries.

I have the Michelin PR2's and have over 11,000 miles on my tires.

That includes 2 days of drag racing and numerous hundred plus mile days.

Avon Storms. I have never tried but have heard over and over in these threads that storms will last for ever. Cool looking tire too. Not as sticky as some but better than stock. Probably just what yu need for commuting and touring.

Rook I didn't have a good experience with the storms, they squared off in the center really bad. The road 2's were excellent and didn't square off. To be honest though I've been able to get just as many miles out of the Q2's and they keep a good rounded profile until the tire is completely used up.

Road pilot 2’s or 3’s got 8,000 some miles out of my road pilot 2’s with probably 2,000 miles left but rainy season was here and my bike is my mode of transportation so I stuck the road pilot 3’s on better safe than sorry and the 3’s are a much better rain tire than the 2’s and still sticky in the corners P.S. I live in Florida 500 some miles 6 curves LOL hope this helps

I ride two up all the time and have used avon storms for years, the new ultra has a harder centre now, the one in the photo had covered 5000 and had 3mm of tread left when this happened.
