About a year ago, I started a thread about my fueling problems which came on after about 5 minutes of riding. When opening throttle, the engine would bog then surge again. Very frustrating and dangerous situation as I almost lost control on one occasion. Thought that my external pump was clogged or getting very hot. After cleaning the pump, the problem seemed to subside, but returned again.
Two pumps later, the issues continued. Although new pumps seemed to be able to suck the fuel from the tank better than the old. External fuel pumps can suck to an extent, but are designed to push the fuel. I also heard strange sounds from the fuel pump, which sounded like it was clogged. So after much reading, spending, and countless hours trying many options, I decided to alter my gas feed nipple to something larger. So had to drain the fuel first and as I opened up the nipple, gas came out with some force, but after a few minutes it was a dribble and I had found my problem.
Tank off, I opened up my fuel sending unit and got rid of the plastic parts left over from intank pump that were obstructing flow. Test rode for about 20 minutes and bike is fueling properly. Pump sounds whisper quiet and produces as much pressure as I set the regulator to. Actually the fuel gauge registers close to 100 psi on WOT, but before it would drop to 0, so I'm not complaining.
Now when I think back, the guy who sold me the turbo, told me he blew the motor because he was not paying attention to fuel pressure and he thought the fuel pump had failed to do the job. Now I know what caused his/my problems. I wrote this update b/c my bike is part of me, so when its broken then I'm broken. Hope this helps someone out there.
