Radar Detector ( location/angle )
07/10/13 8:05 PM

My question is for the 14 only. In what position is the most effective way for a detector to give the best Alert signal back to me? My setup is a stem mount with the detector horizontal aimed straight ahead thru the ( OEM ) windshield. Also would I get a better signal if the radar detector was above the windshield? I would appreciate any and all comments. I also would like for the someone who rides the 14 to do a survey as to what brand of Radar Detector to buy/have bought similiar to the which tire to buy and which oil to use which is featured on this GREAT FORUM. THANKS

Hey Scootin
I am currently running the Escort IQ Radar/GPS and have also run the Escort 9500 and both work well with a stem mount pointed out the windscreen. For radar it gives me plenty warning what lies ahead but for laser U will see the cop before the laser goes off but it lets me know if they are lighting me up...I usually watch the traffic ahead for sudden brake lights to determine a laser cop around the bend. I have a radar screamer on the bike and it is still hard to hear so if you really wanna be sure U hear the trouble sounds where a ear piece so it comes in loud and clear. I have really been thinking of adding a laser jammer to even up the playing field but havent pulled the trigger yet!

Hey, Don, I have an Escort 8500 mounted like Snuff's and it works fine. Saved me beaucoup tickets and dollars. Picks up front and rear signals, so the screen (or my body for that matter) makes no interference. As mentioned, it picks up the laser shots, too, but usually not in advance, so watch it with the ISP. Mo. Hiway Patrol how has some lasers, also FYI.

I'm not familiar with the escort, I run the valentine v1 on my bike and it has arrows on it to tell you where the signal is coming from and that feature is great. Mine is pointed out the windshield as well and it works fine.

Ive been thinking about mounting one of my escort 8500's this way; does a tinted screen cause any issues with radar? obviously laser isn't as big concern due to reaction times and signal spread.

Screen tint has no effect. You can put the rd in your tank bag and it'll still pick up signals.
