Traction control vs wheelies?
06/28/14 6:45 PM

Total noob question: Have had quite a few other sport bikes, but never been a big wheelie guy ... but today crossed over a crowned road which seemed like a good chance to get the front wheel up ... well it started to come up, but then I think TC killed it? It was set on TC level 1. Is that level enough to kill your wheelie if the back wheel spins just a touch? Or do I need to learn to wheelie with no rear wheel spin??

Thinking now, wheelie process was probably going fine on the way up the crown, rear wheel prob spun a touch as it came over the crown to the down side.

I'd like to keep TC on 1 just for some safety margin ... but maybe not if I'm never gonna be able to wheelie, ever, at all, never??

ZX14R you ride a zx14r, anywhere anytime is a good time to get the front wheel up. If you want to learn to wheelie it might be a safe idea to leave crowns out of the equation.
As far as your TC question..i have no idea.lol

You aren't going to see much in TC1.

I've had mine there since the 1000 mile mark and the clock currently reads 25575. Cuts the ignition right away above 5K if you're trying to carry the front.

My experience with TC1 has been....it will wheelie...but as soon as that front wheel starts to slow in the wheelie...yes...tc will bring her back down...normally smoothly as well...if you want to wheelie...leave it in TC1 until you get the hang of lofting. How you throttle and rpms react.I leave mine off....but I didn't at first.I concur with that back wheel leaving the ground...or breaking loose for whatever reason. With TC in 1....it WILL try to save you.I haven't ridden in TC1 now for a long time...I'm used(mostly)to the way my baby lofts and such....gotta say though...with this Cblast flash...I DID have to readjust my throttling...TC 'off' will definitely challenge you(me) with his flash...but I don't want or intend to wreck. And I have to say...his flash will put you on yer ass in a heartbeat if you start wheelying out the gate.Having ceramic bearings really DID change the wheel spin ability(in the front wheel)...so...that pretty much 'changes' the tc settings...unless it's turned off...then it's all about "if I want to start wheelying...I better be real careful"....she WILL flip yer ass(meaning me))right quickLOL!Already had a couple of learning experiences...made me take care how I loft with her now. It's so much 'funner' with his flash in there....no regrets.

"If you want to learn to wheelie it might be a safe idea to leave crowns out of the equation" .

Personally...I don't like crowns at all...so much can be on the other side that you just don't know about.

OK I get the idea that wheelieing over a crowned road is prob a bad idea: might let the rear wheel spin a little then catch and BOOM up goes the front wheel faster than I thought.

Thanks for y'all's input ... keep it comin'.

Oh, and I just learned that apparently the bike re-sets from TC off when I turn the bik odd to TC level 1 when I turn it back on? I guess a reflash fixes that baloney?

Yes. Most flashes floating around will prevent the bike from going back to TC 1 if you have it off.

Yes that was so annoying. Since my original flash about a year ago My TC has been completely off. No use for it really.

I've owned her since new. I ride in F OFF all the time, she never goes to a TC mode. My throttle hand is the TC intervention.

That said some folks launch better using TC1, but I could not tell yah about this.

Here's to melting the rear tire boys!

Wolf - Are you saying your bike doesn't revert back to TC 1 when you turn the bike off and back on? Is that because your ECU is flashed?

Brother, thanks to the C Flash I leave it on F OFF and it remembers the setting. I simply turn the key and it is set to F OFF.

I love the traction control. It has saved my ass several times including a recent battle with a new round-about near my home.

Tr doing your wheelies in 2nd gear to start with the tc off. Slip clutch a little while feeding the gas, do in small increments till you get the feel.

She will wheelie in TC1. In these pictures, I had to chop the throttle to keep her from looping in TC1 (there was no sputter whatsoever:

Skewed that is my experience using full power traction 1. With a 44 rear sprocket the bike would come up 2 + feet with no indication it was going to cut power. This may have been partially a result of the very light CF front wheel with ceramic wheel bearings. I went to a 41 rear sprocket which made the wheelys much more manageable.
