What Do We Call the New ZX14R..Version 2.0?
10/11/11 11:25 AM

If the 2006 through 2007 was version 1.0 and the mild makeover for 2008 through 2011 was version 1.1 then this new model which shares little in common (other than looks) with the previous iteration deserves a version 2.0 or true Gen 2 status.

I just read the stats and am hopeful for a heavy power boost and improved suspension and handling. Apparently shares few parts with the older models.

Can't wait to see a shootout with the Gen 2 Hayabusa and the first dyno runs. Will it match the Bavarian Brawler is the big question? We can only hope....stay tuned!

Looks wise, the jury is still out. The new Foreman Grills will take some getting used to, pipes look better but still will have to go for some aftermarket replacements.

^^^Whatever you wanna call it... That thing is BAD!^^^

Will it edge out the Beemer? I'm assuming you're talking dyno #'s... well does 191 to the wheel win??? TQ is a no brainer.

As far as foremans... I didn't like them on the original, but they grew on me after owning one... I think the new ones make the 14r look tough... like battle scars.

^^^ Not my usual thing... but BEAUTIFUL... you gotta admit. ^^^

You mean when referencing it?

I just Call it the 14R since the previous version had no R designation.

Its a ZX14R, don't know why anyone would need to call it anything else.

But if you translate ZX14R from Kawasaki-speak to plain English, it means "BAAADDDD"

191 rear wheel HP, where did you hear that number?? That would, if true, put the 14R at the top of the food chain again with some crazy quarter mile times to follow....hopefully. Busa folks are running scared, even now Rook is comtemplating trading his in on the new 14R. Oh, when will it all end?

I'm gonna have to stay out this round, I'm all played out..... as in out of poker chips. You guys will just have to go on without me and get one of these new bikes. Technology doomsayers notwithstanding and despite a sorry economy, the bikes just keep getting faster and faster. Soon even the mighty Beemer will be old news, you can spend yourself into oblivion on these things.

191 rear wheel HP, where did you hear that number??

That # was thrown out there by someone "in the loop" over on BL.
But... Brock just posted these on his site:

He's runnin race gas... but I'm sure that's just for "consistency". lol
Says something about a meg also in the notes... Dunno if that means stock or aftermarket... If aftermarket, Major let down... If factory, huge jump from current zx14.

TQ #'s seam WAY low regardless... Serious case of the secondaries???

I saw the R. Gadsen video, running against a 2011 Hyabusa. Not contest, of course.

But it still only ran 9.7 for him. I'm not impressed.

He's fuckin' with us!

They all are from Kaw to RG. That's the name of the game. I would like to meet Kaw marketing team. They did really good: I still love my 14 but can't stop wondering about the new 14R and then, they made most parts fit....

@Dogo: It's been fun watching you go from I dunno to I don't really like it to Where is the R to I need 1. You may as well get in the garage and start taking parts off. looool. You getting 1 as soon as you're dealer get them in. I will give him a call and order a black one for you cause I see you got a 100+ degrees jungle fever. looool

I don't blame you though if I had the money I would have bought it yesterday and post pics just to make people go crazy

I'm going to coin it the, 'fourteen forty one' = 1441cc. That is how I have to remember the cc from the 1352's full generation line. That is a closed book, from 2006 to 2011. Have at your interchangeability... Sans the clutch basket/crank gears, both having to match each other, meaning, go ahead, pick any case.

Anyway, to say it to yourself, it makes sense, adding the 14 to the cc's. But to type it? Year on your own. That is my, watchamacallit moniker offer to the new line of the 14 engine family.

Juries still out on the HP, I'm guessing 175 rear wheel out of the crate, that's 10 up on the version 1.1 and maybe 5 to 6 on the original '06.

I'll eat my words if this thing can hang with a BMW on the dyno.

Ah, whathewatt. I'm going to type it as "14R" for new engine family. 14 for first gen. R for "redesign." I need to see a leap in HP before I climb aboard again. Stock is fine and I like the refine of the tune. To work that sync parameter, I have to buy product because you won't loan the bike to me to find out how to lower the rpm.

Same as finding out the one sensor change is no change at all on that ape. But come to find out about that idle? And the hacks made? And then get back into the dash, you override the hack. I could have done that with the Kawi. They fucked me so fuck them!

Bike does not fit me anyway. Therefore, LEAP! If you want to see my money. Something is going to eat this bike down the road you watch.

The flame scheme is nice, I think.

The new fins are friggin' awesome!

The new pipe is off a busa. Even the heat deflector plating has a hole in the bottom same as my stock busa.

I like it....I just don't like it enough to trade my '06 in on one. The more I look at it and think about it, the less convinced I am that this new bike is the great leap forward we'd all hoped for. The old bike is good, dang good....kinda of a hard act to follow and that makes it tough on the new kid. I think the new bike will produce a few more ponies than the old but most of us have Power Comms and pipes anyway so ridin the stocker might be a let down. The increased handling benefit is going to be minor...subtle. The "R" designation was a marketing ploy by KHI....problem is if you do this stuff enough you start to lose your credibility.

They did the same thing with the new 10R..overhyped. New 10R's a good bike, maybe even a great bike but it wasn't the great revelation that I had hoped for. Gained a couple ponies on top and lost all the midrange. If I could have my Gen 3 back and not be on the hook for $13K on the '11 model would I do that? Is the Pope Catholic?

I hope you are seeing WATT and WOT I am seeing, Kruz. You have to point out a year, and do not bring in another brand. We are one model brand of one history with a street savvy history meaning. Bring forward the year Kawi did not say, did not state, did all that teasing but one thing is certain.

Dish out is the house of HP for the street, yes or no? Show me one top model that did not top the next model. I will give you the floor... Showroom floor that is.

Look at the:

1. Oiling to make more hp lighter at the piston area.
2. Way the skirts are addressed to make more hp and keep it cool enough to be dependable as the last model.
3. Valve stem length has extended in a dramatic way, look out cam lift!
4. Bore potential that did not happen. So says one tiny gap between the middle of water jackets from one cylinder to the next.
5. How they can give it to you all, but HP does not come to you all at once. One is to market the next year you get a pony more.
6. Way this bike is going to reach 186. That is about the best thing that could happen is make a grunt special.
7. Make it longer, but shorten up the front some. So the same or better handling bike comes to you via = R for Refinement.
8. Setup on the bike. Blast from a dead stop is the getaway.
9. They managed the torque, who cares about bore.
10. RR and how quick that is in cc. Do not bring in weight of bike, but bore size and HP. The trend is smaller faster. This bike is bigger quicker.

I think you're low... Jim at Comp CNC is saying 191 to the wheel... but like you said, jury is still out... I stated in another thread that 185 is the magic # I'm gonna need to see to buy one in the immediate future.

I like the green... but the flames look terrible, IMO... I'd have the heat gun on them within minutes of getting that bike home.

The increased handling benefit is going to be minor...subtle. The "R" designation was a marketing ploy by KHI....

Heavier, wider, and longer... I'm still tryin' to figure the "R" out.

Not arguing Hub, it will put out more power than the last iteration but what will be the nature of that power.... that is the question? New 10R was case in point, yes more power on top but trade off was less midrange. Midrange makes you feel fast and helps you get off the corners quicker, ask anyone who has ridden one of the new CBR Hondas. Down by 25 HP on the Beemer but able to handle it in the quarter mile and on the track. How do they do that? Light weight and super strong midrange, comes on line quick.

Yet in 4 runs, Gadsen never got his under 9.7 in the 1/4 mile. At 191 rwhp wouldn't we expect a lower ET from a pro racer? Maybe not...
