Little ZX14R intro video testing new Nikon D3300
01/03/15 4:10 PM

Got my first DSLR specifically for video. Testing it out, first day in a week it wasn't totally shitty out. I would like to improve my skills and make some youtube shorts. I like trying something that isn't video games and engineering, less structure, more creative. I should have changed the white balance on the caliper clip and shot in 24p as opposed to 60p.

Play at 1080p

I like the editing and the use of natural light. I would suggest a more dramatic stronger music. I like it though

That's some nice work there. Definitely on the artsy side and not content focused. My vids are usually to the point and I do sometimes feel they could be a little more artsy, like maybe have a short intro.

Some of my pet peeves are annoyingly long intros. Anything more lengthy than about 15 seconds for a internet persona is undeserved. I normally don't care for music in the background and prefer the sound from the video. Yeah everyone gets it (figurative) you're a rebel and a rocker using copyrighted heavy metal during your ride video. No matter how fast and loud the music is, it's not like being there. And finally I'll always prefer content over dazzle unless the purpose is dazzle content. Back to the first point, a 3 minute intro with loud heavy metal and roaring exhaust played over mystery rider going in and out of frame will get my down vote every time.

Thanks for the feedbacks. When it warms up a bit I would like to get some high quality / dramatic wheelie shots, artsy action crap. I am going through some books/online content learning about filming/photography/story and I would like to have something exciting up after the cold weather leaves texas. alright....back to watching thug life videos

Nice video for sure. How much time invested to make a 52sec. video?

It was a real toss up between the D3300 and Sony A58k for $100 less. Sony makes the D3300 sensor, but its better with video. As for regular picture takin, i'm still learning and I find it easy to use. Again, i'm not a student of photography or film, I have no training but I find it easy to read some guides on how to calculate aperture, shutter, ISO sensitivity and get my depth of field where I want it. I found out the kit lense is not a good match, it only accepts 9 perceived mega pixels of detail so with more lenses you can grow into the camera I suppose. Much like bikes I think the camera will outshoot my skills for quite some time, definitely wiggle room. Right now I think this is the best for a new camera price point @ $490. I could have gotten a used D5200 and had more auto focus points, articulating screen etc... but I wanted something new and not refurbed.

I plan on getting some fixed lenses that will allow for more sensor usage and definitely a 35mm lens for some low light hooliganism in some of the more private areas of austin, tx :). I have a camera backpack with a tripod mount so I can be a mobile footage machine along side my Action Camera :)

Here is something I threw together on my DRZ in about 4 hours including editing time etc...NOTE: this is before I got regeared for my weight/size and got much much better with wheelies on that bike and the stoppies were literally my second attempt at them.

I'd like to slap one of those on my bike for an 8 sec pass.

Thank you thank you.

Here is a little taste of my audio setup. I have a 8" shotgun mic with a high/low pass filter, boost and in camera mic controls. Another reason why I chose the Nikon was I can set my input levels on the mic and get loud noises without clipping.
