Hello from NW Iowa
12/22/15 6:09 PM

As the title says, hello from the now-cold location of Iowa!

Picked up my used 2013 ZX-14R about 4 months ago, 6k miles for $8500. Bone stock, not even a fender eliminator!
A couple months, a thousand miles or two, and just enough time to put it away for the winter...

Currently working on a few acquisitions. While Two Brothers wasn't my first (or second) choice for exhaust, Amazon had a full system in carbon for $400 that I couldn't say no to... Will be bolting that up this winter, tune/flash to follow. Touring is a part of the focus, made a trip to Road America earlier this year for AHRMA with a couple of friends, (Blue 14 in previous picture one of them) and plan to go to either Texas for CotA or Colorado next year.

A shot from work

Thanks for all the great info on this site, helps a new guy out.

Blue is the fastest color, eh? White is made up of all colors and as such it has already collected the greatness that is present in blue, green, and red. Semi-joking aside, in that photo blue probably is the fastest one... Your victory shall not reign forever, however...

I'm not gonna lie, you have a nice looking machine Extrapolator! Muzzy's look good on your bike. How do you like the V47? Did you ever happen to compare it to the V56?

TigerFire13 - Thank you, and this is the only bike I've ever owner with luggage, so the V47 is the only top case I've had. It works great! Very large storage; holds 2 full face helmets. At stops I always put my helmet, jacket and gloves in it so I don't have to carry them around, and that's in addition to a small bag of miscellaneous items I keep in there at all times (tire pressure gauge, small can of chain lube, etc). It's nice and light yet very well built. Nice rubber gasket to waterproof it, and I've ridden in rain (unfortunately) several times now with it, and not a drop has leaked it. The handle lock is very secure. And the case locks onto the mounting bracket, too, so somebody would really have to $%^& it up to either break into it, or to get it off the bike. Not really sure how they'll ever improve upon this thing.

Looks-wise, my buddy has one, so before buying my own while we'd ride around I got to see his, from all angles Haha! I just thought it was the best looking top case, and still do. The shape of the "lights" make it look about as good as a top case can look, IMO. A 56 would be nice, because the more storage the better, says this hoarder! But I just don't think it looks as good, and being bigger would prob also detract from the looks of the bike. All just my opinion of course.

Sorry the book ... I guess I like to pass on good news about nice products!

I do like the looks of the v47 better, but would like to be confident the helmets with communicators will both fit side by side in the vertical (normal?) orientation... Still have to make up my mind on which to get. Had thought about getting Kawasaki's KQR variant of the 47 (less silver, shared ignition/lock key), but that is probably not going to happen. I am happy that it was made, however. Because of it, and the v35 licensed for the Versys, I am able to secure trim for the v35's and v47/v56 in Kawasaki's own Pearl Stardust White :) I also wanted to get the lock cylinders from the KQR v47, and put them in the v35's as well, but the lock cylinder is not compatible with the real Givi cases...

As far as writing a book, I like reading details. Its like the difference of reading a manufacturer's description compared to watching a RevZilla video review. Details are a good thing, especially when you are plunking down hard earned cash.

First, I see you have the Rostra cruise control. I'm jealous! Did you install it? If so, pain in the arse? I don't really wanna tear the bike apart. How does the handle bar interface fit and look? What did it cost you?

2nd, I had no idea Kawi offered a Kawi branded version of the Give case! I might've gone that route, depending on price. I'd prefer white highlights on the case vs the silver that mine came with, but it's not a deal breaker on looks at all for me. I must carry at least 2 keys, or 3: 1 for the ignition of course, and 1 for the top case and side cases (all keyed alike) ... and the 3rd is optional but I do carry it: the one to remove the little side case carrier locks.

3rd, I have the Sena SMH10R intercom on my helmet. Both the interface and the battery are very thin/narrow, and the helmet fits standing up (normal direction) perfectly. My riding bud has the same intercom, so I'll try to remember to (try to) place both helmets in my case to see if they fit, next time we ride. Both of us have the intercom on the side, of course, and the battery attached at center-rear. Givi says the V47 holds 2 helmets, but I dunno if 1 or both needs to be places sideways.

First, I did the install myself. It wasn't the most fun, but I take things pretty slow when I work, I tend to enjoy spending time with my bike :) I may have to post a mini how-to and/or pictures, it doesn't seem as if anyone has really put together a guide specific to the 14R here? In short, I put the module behind the battery where the ABS module would be on so-equipped bikes. I believe the wire and cable running required removal of the left hand fairing (not just the grill), as well as the tank and playing with the wiring behind the ECU, for the brake light/switch cruise kill. Battery is low so flash disabled, but you get the idea. I could take a better picture later if you would like?
Cruise module was $175, and Remote was $35. I bought a spare bracket from Oxford's Heaterz controls ($10), bent it the opposite direction, and used that to mount the cruise controls on the RH side. I believe Murph's Kits also sells a bracket for this application on C14's?

2nd, The KQR case itself is cheaper, but it does not come with the lock cylinder, inner trip panel, or outer trim panel, those must be purchased additionally. The silver on the givi is black on the KQR. The white trim I speak of is this: V47/V56 trim
You must have purchased the optional locks for the SW-Motech PLX racks then?

3rd, The 10R is a slim little unit. I run the 20S (a little thicker). It would still be nice to know though.

Almost forgot, while the Amazon link no longer lists them, This is what I have on the V35's, in case you were interested.

I think I'm good with the side cases being white ... but damn, now I gotta decide if white trim on the V47 would be good. That might look really good with white highlights down the middle of the bike. Ugh - always more money to spend HAHA!

Thanks for all the info and links on the panels, and the cruise; not sure I'm ready to get into that just yet. Wow, just ~$220 to add cruise ... that ain't bad.

My buddy kids me that I'm turning my ZX into a Concours, which is what he has. Not that the Concours comes with cruise, but he did just add it to his.

As much as we may be asking our 14's to act a little Concour, It doesn't take but a minute or two to remove the luggage. Isn't that why this bike is so great? Being able to have darn near the best of both worlds whenever you want? My bike is torn apart right now waiting for exhaust and air horn install, but maybe this will help?

Please disregard finger in photo. Trying to block out light from window...

Lookin' good

The white on the side cases looks pretty good. Looking forward to "after" pics

Oh, and yes I prefer the ZX. The only thing I like better about the C14 is the shaft drive, and from what I hear that saps power. So I'll continue to carry around my small can o' chain lube and occasionally adjust the chain
