Kudos for Two Bros and Motorcycle Gear.com
03/13/13 5:59 PM

Just came in from the garage after installing the Two Bro's black series carbon slip ons and testing for sound when at rest and ridden around the block.

I purchased these from Motorcycle Gear .com after an alert on this forum (thank you very much) that they had a set for the R used only for a show and then repackaged to be closed out for $600. When the exhaust arrived, I found it to be pristine just as advertised; no marks on it and never been run, but it had been re-packaged for sure.

They set in the basement for months while we dragged thru winter here in Northern Illinois. We are trying to start spring here now but it has been 10-12 degrees below average for highs and snow storms keep coming thru. Rain following the last big storm and a warm-up cleaned the roads but more rain-snow yesterday brought out the salt trucks again and it looks like this may repeat another couple times before the weekend.

I cleaned out a space in the garage and forged ahead anyway. The exhausts and mid-pipes and the mounting hardware are all of top quality. Now installed on the bike, the exhaust fits perfectly and is solid; there is no wiggle or give in the assembly. The slip-ons are feather-light compared to the O.E.M. cannons and they tuck in tight to the sides of the bike, greatly narrowing the rear end. And the SOUND! OMG, it sounds great. Very bass and mellow up to about 5000 rpm.

I do believe they are going to be a bit loud and droning at highway speeds cruising cross country. My KR Tuned slip-ons on the Gen. 1 ZX-14 had an annoying drone in highway cruise mode; but I loved them otherwise. I have P-1 inserts on order to quiet the sound a bit and to increase the back pressure. According to tests in Motorcyclist, the P-1's will drop about 4 db off the volume and increase the hp a horse or two. The P-1x inserts will drop another 4 db or so but will also drop a 3 to 4 horses off the power output. Even at my advanced age and lower testosterone levels, I can't add an accessory at increased cost that has the effect of lowering hp!! LMAO. P-1's should be quiet enough for me without the "sacrifice" of full warp power delivery.

I am already in love with the look of the black carbon on the blue bike and I think the gold color P-1's will set off the exhaust portals when I get them installed.

Before someone says this thread is no good without pics; pictures of the Two Bro's on a blue 14-R have already been posted here before; but I will post in the future if someone really wants to see the install; maybe after I insert the gold tips.

Kudos to both MotorcycleGear.com and Two Brothers for what is very good service, pricing and follow up by the retailer (they contacted me about my order to insure satisfaction) and the excellent quality of engineering and materials by the manufacturer. I could not be more pleased at this time.

Hi, The two brithers are a little loud at speed, but not too bad, I wear earplugs too so not that bad, I went to the P1X inserts because I was trying to help the decel pop, I have a CA model, and I think it pops a little more than most 14R's I might be wrong, but it did help with the decel, but even with plugging the airbox and hose it still pops a little, but nothing bad, I posted the two brothers becuase Motorcycle Gear sent me an e-mail and I already had some 2 bros slip ons, so I fiqured someone could use them, Enjoy ! sounds WAY better than stock Huh ? LOL ! not to mention the weight savings ! those stock cans were boat anchors !

" I went to the P1X inserts because I was trying to help the decel pop, I have a CA model, and I think it pops a little more than most 14R's"

First, thanks again for the post. Saved me a bunch of green.

Secondly, I was speculating that the increased back pressure would tend to limit the decel pop. So I am glad to hear you say that you have found that to be the case. I got a bit of that pop just sitting in neutral and revving and releasing. Didn't get it running around the block; will have to try the back roads when things get warmer and drier around here (like maybe tomorrow, heh, heh.) At least a short run would be in order in the afternoon to test that effect. If you are right that the CA model is more prone to this, maybe the P-1's will be enough back pressure to assuage any inordinate amount of pop on mine. I don't mind a bit of that anyway along with the accompanying burble that I got on my KR Tuned slip-ons. I am eager to find out.

And hell yes, the sound is indeed WAY better!

Cheers,
PaulAB

I have the Two Brothers black series on mine and I love them! So good looking and sound is fantastic. Honestly don't notice the drone really at highway speeds. I can wear my headphones and hear just fine. I actually enjoy it it's very mellowing. I may try the P1 tips if it bumps HP a touch. I don't really have a lot of decel pop just a nice burble off throttle. Allthough my neighbors would probably appreciate it LOL.

Here are the black series on white!

Lookin' good on the new White Shark.

Took the Azure Squallo out this afternoon for a faster ride and I do believe I'm gonna want to keep the inserts in once they get here and I try them. The drone at highway speed was just enough to be intrusive with a helmet and no ear plugs.
Just a bit too much for me; but I do like the acc/deccel growl and rap!

First ride of the season and with loud pipes announcing my presence, what should happen but an SUV pulls in front of me making a left turn onto my road from a side street on my right and as I begin to swerve right anticipating him continuing to cross my lane; he stops...... blocking the right two thirds of my lane. I swerve back left and pass in front of his nose as I see his wife yelling at him about something?

I think it is possible that she was saying; " Dearest husband, did you not see and hear that motorcycle lawfully plying the roadway? Well, no pi for you when we get home!"

I have the 2Bros slips on my 14R and recently added the P1X plugs because the pipes were too loud for me. I like the strong growl but DAMN! I could barely hear my MP3 and I gotta have my music. I definitely enjoy the plugs. The bike vibrates less, significantly reduced the popping on decel, and the throttle response is sharper than not having the plugs. I guess adding more backpressure cured all of those ills. And I can jam to old school funk while I beat up on my liter bike buddies in the twisties. The 14R feels like I have on stock pipes that look and sound really good. Exactly my goal.

Got my slips from Motorcyclegear.com also and Nate really hooked me up. I'm a big fan of that store.
