Big K I haven't had the pleasure of owning a modern liter bike yet, but from what I've read they seem to have done a VERY good job of getting maximum performance and light weight out of them. From what I've gathered it doesn't seem like they have as much room for improvement in those areas as other bikes. I think once you get to explore the upper revs tho you'll still find the power you're wanting from the mods. The yosh pipe on my busa changed the busa's stock power delivery by taking away some low end, but giving me much more midrange....and it gave the busa a top end hit that it never had originally. Basically what it did was take a flat boring power curve and give it some nice juicy spikes Between the weight loss/new rubber/better handling/extra power it really is a whole new bike to ride.....much more wheelie prone, lighter on its feet, and easier to turn. But it also seemed to lose a slight bit of its legendary stability. I'm having to re-adjust abit

As always Bad in Black, thanks for the encouraging words. I do need to get out this evening and "explore" the upper reaches of the rpm range to find out what the mods have done. To be honest, I tend to ride this thing like my 14 and use the midrange and that's not good. The 14 has freakish midrange (but you already know that) but the CBR is more top end oriented, I need to grit my teeth and wring this muthas tail. The Yoshimura dyno charts show the real gains begin at 6000 rpm and peak gains occur at the redline of 12,200 rpm so you're right, there's probably a lot more that I haven't found yet. She is much smoother now for sure and that means a lot to me.

Steven, I checked this morning, that Superior XP 360 will set you back $23,000 plus taxes, freight and oh yea.... you'll need a constant speed propeller.

360 cubic inch, four cylinders, 2700 rpm redline and rated at 180 HP and almost 400 lb-ft torque! Make a nice swamp buggy engine....or go kart!

Rook, did you buy the 10?

There were a couple of well modded zx10s on eBay recently,
one was in WI.

nope.

I'm glad I looked into it. Seems like the '08 gsxr 1k is equal in performance and I think it looks a lot better, overall. Problem is, i don't think there's a lot of them left in Wisconsin. Might be worth it for me to wait until I really do some research. I might spend a couple thousand more but I'll know what I want. Used might even be a good option for me.

Still have my heart set on an 08 busa which I know everyone thinks would be a silly choice as i already own a 14. Yeah, that's right, everyone who hasn't heard, I want both.

Meantime, money is hemraging from my account right into my divorce attorney's.

It's all very befuddling.

Sitting on the zx-10, it doesn't feel ALL that much liter than a 14. The Ninja 750 is somewhat liter lifting off the sidestand but geeze that 600 is like nothing. Much lighter than even the 750, I think. Now that, I could see cornering like a wild man on. I'm not sure how much better i would be on cornering with a liter bike than a hyperbike.

The rebate is still going on so i could still grab a ZX-10 though. <<See how befuddled I am? I guess I'm gravitating toward the busa because I have no question that i want it...at least i think i do.

As with all Republician Addictions...

just say No!

Also, as you know, Suzu is kicking ass this year in the 1k class..... great bike and even better rider.

Methinks wait 2 years for a melding of Yama-engine_&_Handling/Honda-brakes/Suzu_Like-U-Rider...

Do I really hafta read all those post A-Head'O me?

Mmmm, mmm, m- I had the 09 gixer picked as my fav based on statistics and looks. Never got a clear answer on peak rw hp but what they were calling break hp was like 190 measured at the crank, if I remember correctly. The exhaust was ugly as sin but after you dropped those goofy busa tail looking pipes, I think you'd be right close to the same weight as the Honda.

Yeah, I can wait on a liter bike if I want. I'm not sure I'm ready for one of those squirly beasts yet. The main reason to buy now is price but Suz isn't budging so much on the 08s I don't think. 08 busa price seems to have only come down $200 since I asked 5 months ago.

Rook, do not get hung up on rear wheel HP numbers in a literbike. Unless you are just looking for posers numbers or expect to run at Bonneville they are almost meaningless. It's how the power is laid down that counts. Look at the torque figures from 5 years ago when literbikes were laying down about 140 -150 bhp. The torque was about 75 lb-ft peak. Look at the '09s, torque hasn't changed i.e. about 75 lb-ft, the extra 20 hp they're getting today comes from spinning the crank another 1500 to 2000 rpm. Unless you are a pro level roadracer you can't use that power on a track. I know of what I speak here, I just dropped $1200 on a pipe and PCIII for the CBR and ruined that great powerband the bike was known for. It definitely has more power now but the full system shifted it up higher in the rpm range where it's harder to access, the low end is gone now. Give me 150 smooth horses with lots of lowend and midrange any day over 170 hp at a gazillion rpm and no bottom end.

I believe you when you say no one but a pro would be able to handle all the power, even on a track but somehow, I'd still have to find out for myself. Trust me, I'd find some place to let it wind up to 1400 rpm in 1st & 2nd gear. If it can do that, I'd have to try it. If I could set my bike up to have the most beefy low end and mid-range of any bike on the street, I'd still want to know what I could get out of the top even if there were very few opportunities to use it.

I can see why you like to ride a bike that has the best power at a range that can actually be used on the street, though. It's a kick to have gobs of power within reach on the 14 but how often do i go there, not too often. Second gear you'd be doing about 110?? Never tried that one yet and i wouldn't unless it was a deserted, straight road.

OK Rook, something tells me you're still very confused about what you actually want. If you want to learn to corner, go buy yourself a 600. If you want a bike with the biggest HP numbers go buy a 2009 Hayabusa. The liter will be somewhere between those two extremes.

Trust me, I'd find some place to let it wind up to 1400 rpm in 1st & 2nd gear.

1400 rpm is just above idle Rook, you could probably get off and push the bike faster!

I agree J, I don't like to have to keep my bikes wound up all the time for the power either.......thats why I yanked the flies on my 14. Thats one BIG adavntage the big bores have over the liters, they don't need to be wound up to get large amounts of usable power. Plus the lower you can keep a bikes revs the longer it'll last you.....another neat feature of the big bikes You're going to have to get used to keeping the CBR up in the revs like you did the 14 when you first got it tho, unfortunately thats just how the liters roll Just remember you can thrash it alittle, cause you'll still be splitting the mileage among 3 bikes...so it'll still be around a very long time I have to admit I do like a hard revving top end hit.....I think it came from all my years of riding 2 stroke dirt and street bikes, I just LOVE when a bike comes alive up high and scares me just a little

And D, there's nothing wrong with owning a 14 and wanting a busa.....I have both and have no plans to get rid of either. 1Bad just picked up an 08 busa as well. If you want the bus get it. Scratch that itch man

You're right on target there Bad in Black, I feel like I'm thrashing the liter every time I get on it and more so now with the 4 into 1 on there. The 14 spoiled me, you can haul butt and the motor is not even working up a sweat. The liter definitely moves out now, may be as fast as my 14 but it sounds like it's working hard to get there. Different strokes, some folks love that high pitched scream of a 600 or liter in full song. Even more shocking is how fast I'm going through rubber on this thing, 1500 miles on the OEM Bridgestone BT-015 and it looks smoked, especially on the sides where it's starting to peel rubber. The little Honda's got to be laying down some power now to do that.

Bad, you gotta get ya some! The high speed corners on this thing are addictive, it just screams at you to throw it into a turn and then begs for more. I'm shocked by how fast I'm chewin up the edges on that rear tire though, the middle still looks like brand new, it never stays upright for long!

YOWza~! I do love that sound but I'm sure you have no problem doing ordinary street riding at reasonable 3K rpm with the literbike.

As for waring your tire out on the sides quicker than the middle, that's incredible! I don't know if I'm ready to ride any bike like that yet. It makes me want one to try it and then it makes me stop and think that maybe that's more skill than I'm going to possess for some time. I have 1000 miles with the 14 on the BTO-16s and I still have not gotten down to the lowest, stickiest 1/2" edge of the tread. Looks like I'm leaning harder than the stockers though.

Trust me Rook, you will corner more aggressively on either a liter or a 600. It'd be like you'd been driving Ford four door sedans all of your life and then somebody pitched you a set of keys to a Ferrari Testarossa. Ciao baby! That's not to say a more experienced rider on a 14 or Busa won't come along and spank your hiney on a twisty road though.
