Sato Racing GP Rearsets & Translogic Quickshifter
08/03/14 1:21 PM

I am wanting to purchase the Sato's GP pattern rearsets and a translogic quickshifter. I would like to order all the parts at once versus playing MacGyver and having to send parts back or exchanging parts. Could somebody tell me if those two items would work on a 2006 ZX-14? Thanks.

I can see no reason at all why the quickshifter linkage wouldn't fit the standard pattern shif lever with the Sato but I have never had a GP shift lever on the bike (busa). As long as the shift rod is long enough, I can't see why it wouldn't work. The knuckle on the shift shaft will point up just like it would with the standard shift lever so I doubt there would be any problem with clearing the fairing.

Bare in mind, I don't have a translogic shifter but all there is to "fit" is the shift rod. Should be same as Vortex rearsets and shift rod fitted with any strain gauge sensor.

Why Sato? Because it is made to accept the GP shift lever? You know you can do that with Vortex if you do a little modding of the knuckle or trim a small notch in the edge of the fairing. I do not think Sato is superior to Vortex in any way. If you get them, make certain the back heim joint screw is locktited well and check often. the grub screw on the front too. Careful tightening the heal guards, don't torque to spec, the hex will strip. LokTite. Also, I don't think the pegs are as grippy. JMHO, from owning both, Vortex is better and cheaper, just no GP shift lever.

I like the looks of the Sato's better. I'll probably pull the trigger next week and hopefully, I'll be good to go for my track day on Sept 6th. Thanks for chiming in.

If it comes down to looks, to each his own but I think the chunkier looking Vortexs look better on a big bike.

I'm with Rook on this one. I have never owned a set of sato's but I have had to repair or source parts for a couple of sets for the reasons rook stated. I have the Vortex on Priscilla and the only thing I had to do to make GP shift work was swap the heel plates lefty/righty. A very minor trim of fairing by the heim joint. Can't even see it. Quality feel, and fit and finish is excellent. Support from vortex is also top shelf. I like em a lot.

The mounting plate swap around will make the pegs stick out another 1/4 inch. That will reduce your cornering clearance if you can lean that far.

Looks like there is no other way than to move the peg out so the shift rod clears the kickstand. Looks like you could just shim the shift rod out instead of swap mounting plates.

....or just get Satos! How about a Sato shift lever on Vortex rearsets? Might be doable.

I'm going to stick with Sato's. I like the design and Vortex are too bling bling to my taste. I could get them re-painted but that's too much work and they cost as much as the Sato's. Don't get me wrong I like nice parts but I also like the minimalist look of race bikes. Thanks for the input guys.

Drag king, Sato's are awesome! I had them on my 2007 ZX14 and loved them. I would love to add a set of gold Sato's to my 14r. If you find a deal let me know. Heres a few pics of them on my 07.

You can make them work. Like I had to do with the ebay rear sets. You will need to get spacers to shim out peg bracket plate so it will clear shift peg and straighten shift rod. You may have to notch lower fairing or as I did add spacers and longer bolts to move lover fairing out a bit to clear shift link.
Heres my install link. There not vortex but modification should be the same. I also installed anitorri quick shifter. I need a shift rod to make it work. Shift rod lenth will be determined by where you set adjustable rearsets at.
