There is no reason to pay through the nose for a helmet. I paid just over $300 for mine and it is gorgeous, light, and looks awesome. Yeah, it isn't an Aria or Shoei with $1000 of graphics on it - but it looks just as good and protects my head just as good too.

There is some use in spending more than, say, $300. I can't remember seeing any good composite helmets that low anywhere. To get the really light ones, which just happen to offer better protection due to technology, takes a bit more money.

I find the weight difference noticeable.

That's too funny... I'm actually looking for another helmet right now. Currently use an Arai, and was researching helmets and found that they have a new model with 20% more sideview area that other helmets. I don't know how anyone else feels about the stock zx14 mirrors but to me they suck the golden banana. I've got 1" spacers ordered and hopefully the 20% addition with a new helmet will help.

I am amazed how special graphics add to the cost of a helmet.

I think for the most part that the 14's mirrors’ are one of the best (for sportbikes) in all the bikes I have riding to date. They could have used a little more convex curve, just to add a wider viewing angle.

Jessejames, What bikes are you comparing the 14's mirrors too??

These are the best mirrors that I have ever seen on a bike, oem or aftermarket...

And i don't think the 20% xtra peripheral vision of the helmet is going to make a difference in what you see in your mirrors, you don't use your peripheral vision, when you look in your mirrors...

But no matter how good your mirrors are, 1" spacer or not, they still do not replace the need for a Head-check!!!
And this is where the xtra 20% will help, when you turn your head to look over your shoulder...

DON'T trust your mirrors, ALWAYS do a kwik head-check!!!

"Jessejames, What bikes are you comparing the 14's mirrors too??"

All the other bikes I have owned, the latest being my ZX11. The zx11's mirrors are square, which work better for me than the 14's. I'm a big guy, 6'1", 200+ lbs, with wide shoulders so I see a lot of my shoulders/arms in the 14's mirrors even with them adjusted out. As I said, I'm hoping the 1" spacers will help some. This is all subjective depending on your size and where you sit on your bike, stock seat vrs Corbin, Tobin, etc. I wouldn't even mind if the 14's mirrors were the same design, just 30% larger overall.

I'm not looking for the 20% extra vision to help with the mirrors. In certain circumstances a quick side-glance never hurts to verify what I see in my current zx14 mirrors.

Getting back to the helmets which is the thread subject, I was up at Marcus Dairy, a Meca point in Danbury, Connecticut for Sunday morning riders, and I saw a new, flat gray full face helmet I though was interesting. The guy who owned it was riding that new Harley-looking Yamaha cruiser, the one with the M109 1800 cc motor. I though the helmet was a nice touch.

RF 1000 lighter and quieter and much cheaper. This just my observation. And do not go on e-bay if you have been drinking

Red you other posting about this incident.
Hey, at least you now have an X-11. The best helmet there is (IMHO)

Anyone owned an AGV? The GP TiTech is (apparently?) a competitor to the Shoei X-11 and, here in Australia at least, is less than half the price (in a solid black)! Cheaper visors too. I read a couple of rave reviews. The Rossi (this is the helmet he wears - so they say) replica's are more expensive than the X-11 though.

I worry a bit with Shoei that you pay a lot for the graphics (which it must be said are absolutely stunning). Fair enough if you love a particular design, but I really think the solid colours should be much cheaper...which they are not.

I've tested a Shoei X-11 on the pavement and came through with flying colors... I'm going to stick with them!

I found a great price on a closeout E-Boz replica X-11 that is about $100 cheaper than the solid I had before - gets delivered today and my bike will be ready in less than a week. Whoohoo!

I'm sorry to say that my head is kind of shaped like a thumb. Most helmets sit too far forward and down at the chin on my noggin. For me, the Arai with the aggressive cheekpads really squashes my head comfortably into the back.

I've got:

A Nolan N102 which is sort of heavy but the the convertible aspect is great in traffic on a hot day. It's got that flip down sun visor which I hate and took off. The stock 2 pin antifog insert worked really well for a season but I never got around to replacing it. Love the quick release strap though.

An Arai RX7 Corsair that ventilates really well but is a little noisy. Fit was dialed in with slightly smaller cheekpads. Boring slate gray finish. My main lid.

An HJC AC12 carbon fiber job. Very light, good fit and average ventilation which is the only reason I don't use it more. It seems to have really good peripheral vision. And it looks cool.

A totally generic CKX open face that's actually really comfortable. Bought from a Autozone "Motorcycle Department" for a arrive single, leave together date two up situation. Crappy DOT helmet that's ok around town but does not inspire much confidence.

An old Shoei M85 with stars and stripes that sure looked good on my Interceptor. 20+ years ago.

A Shoei X11 that is a beautiful helmet that just doesn't fit my head. The wife loves it.

And as for the fucker that made off with my Suomi, if I ever see you again you'd better hope that you can outrun a bullet. It was a great fit and I should have just replaced it with another one.

After all this rain, I finally got a chance to spend some time with my new cabbage protector . With the vents all open, the air flow through this helmet is absolutely amazing. This helmet is also very very stable at high speeds. I spend a fair amount of time looking over my shoulder so this was a major concern of mine . So far I am very impressed with the Shoie X-11. This helmet is a definite home run. If SHOEI matches your head shape the X11 is worth a look.

I currently own both the RF1000 & X-11 and would highly recommend both these helmets. Their are differences in the two, as I am just finding out. (RF1000 is posted in the for sale section of the forum). As far as pointing out what I don't like, well that is something I can't do, as I love them both. What I can do is point out the differences between them. I am just getting to know the X-11 and so far I am very pleased. Nothing bad to report.
