LOL I'm not about to change my order again! I'm sticking with DJ. The complete Dynojet setup allows the best datalogging and most conveniently accessed (through stock wiring harness). The timing is limited. The ideal setup would be LCD for datalogging, Autotune, and SB6 for timing adjustment.
Should I change this order again?

Rook what's most important is that you're using the software your most comfortable with. No matter what you decide All of the above tools will allow you to run NOS and pull timing for safety. If ever you're unsure I will gladly help in the building of your map. Always nice to have a wing man to bounce ideas off of.

Have Fun with it

So the basic idea is that the TP columns of DJIM ad extra risk if you change the adjustment as rpm changes. We don't know what the ECU is telling the ignition at every TP so it's safer to go with what we know is safe for all TP at each rpm. The SB6 can't be programmed for TP so the risk is not there. The DJIM should be programmed so that TP is not a factor in adjusting timing like the SB6.

We can slide the plotting points left and right on the SB6 graph to select the shape of our timing curve. Tell me this, on the SB6 graph above, the first plot is at 0. The second plot is at -2°. The points are 2750 rpm apart. Does this mean that the timing is adjusted 0° for the first 2750 rpm and then goes to -2 or does the timing change gradually from 0° to -2° over the first 2750 rpm?

example -0°, -.18°, -.36°, -.54°, -.72°, -.9°, -1.08°, -1.26°, -1.44.....-2°

Well, I'm not exactly sure what happened here..thought I cancelled the order...definitely ordered a DJ Ignition Modul...considered changing the order back to the SB6....now I got this on my doorstep.

...maybe I will end up with both. Afterall, that's what happened with the 14 and the busa. So far I have put 10x as much thought into choosing an ignition controller as I did into choosing which bike so having both ignition modules would seem sort of appropriate. haha--I will call Summit Racing and tell them I got an SB6 shipped from MSD--cancel the DJ Ignition module. I'd like to try both. The DJIM has some nice features to it and the SB6 has some others. There seems to no real difference in adjusting timing as long as you program the DJIM the same way you would the SB6. At this point, it seems like there's not enough dif to nitpick the topic any further. Tell ya the truth, I was probably going to go with the DJIM since I have an all DJ setup but my intuition is telling me the SB6 is a slightly more --shall we say, "evolved" piece of equipment. Still I am left saying,
"!"

Time to have fun and if I ever want an ignition module, I can always get one. I don't think DJ will stop making them any time real soon.

I am still curious though Romans, Does the SB6 advance in fractional steps every 250 rpm (-0°, -.18°, -.36°, -.54°, -.72°, -.9°, -1.08°, -1.26°, -1.44.....-2°) or does the adjustment you chose with the last plot point apply to the whole range between plot points??

I sent the SB6 back. Got the Ignition Module.

It may be one of the finer points but still worth mentioning. The SB6 is designed to be located under the seat which keeps it pretty safe and also very convenient to access. I have all my modules under the seat. The Ignition Module's wire is not long enough to reach. For $15 I can order a 30" CAN cable to hook up to my PCV if I leave that under the seat. Otherwise, I would have to relocate the PCV and the Autotune to the ram air tube where the Ignition Module will be placed.

I have considered making up an 8 inch jumper wire with connectors that would hook inline at the connector on top of the valve cover. the jumper would have the same connectors at the opposite end to hook up to the Ignition Module connectors. Does this sound like a reasonable idea to give me the additional wire length I need?

Update. One of the selling points of the Ignition Module was that it did not require tapping stock wires like the SB6 does to have full capability. All connections through the stock harness? Not really. Gear position, tap gear position sensor. Wheel speed, tap speed sensor....what else? The SB6 and the IM are starting to look more equal. Still like the cells for timing over the graph. I'd still go with the IM over the SB6 but the wire taps are another little bit of a disappointment.

Well Rook. Here's bumping an older thread with lots of good info. So is the DJ ignition model able to hold more than one map? Specifically 2 like the pcv? With a similar map switch so that one could switch to the nos fuel and timing map when the nitrous is activated?
My MPS box has a toggle switch to arm the system. Then my starter button activates the nos solenoid. Would it be a fast enough map change if I wired the button to swap maps at the same time as the solenoid or would I be much safer to have a dedicated map switch and then hit the spray? Will a good nitrous fuel and ignition map still be a good running bike without spray or will it be noticeably slower. I know Romans stated pulling timing will lose hp but if only 2-5 I don't think I'd notice and the extra boost on the big end would more than make up for it.

I just remembered MPS has a map switch that wires in and changes fuel maps in the pcv when I hit the button. So that answers some question. Trying to search about the DJ ignition module to figure out if it holds multiple timing maps.

It's been a while since I've thought about this but I think the timing table is in THE MAP. The map file holds Autotune, Fuel, AFR, Trims and.....i believe Ignition tables. In the PC5 software, you can select to View Autotune/Ignition tables even if device is not Autotune/Ignition enabled. So if I recall, the ignition table is in the map you have loaded to the PC5. You just can't edit, change or use it without the ignition module installed.

If I'm correct about this, then it would be possible to hold 2 maps in the PC5. One for NOs fueling and ignition and the other for NA fueling and ignition.

With a similar map switch so that one could switch to the nos fuel and timing map when the nitrous is activated?

One switch flips between NOS map and NA map. Timing and Fueling. One switch changes to desired fueling and timing together.

Hope I'm right on this. Think I am. I'd check with Dj.

Would it be a fast enough map change if I wired the button to swap maps at the same time as the solenoid or would I be much safer to have a dedicated map switch and then hit the spray?

If you wired the NOS arm and the solenoid in the same circuit, you could accidentally spray at low rpm which i have been told is a strict no-no. That is probably the #1 reason to have a NOS arm switch so you know the NOS is only there when you intend to hit it.

Will a good nitrous fuel and ignition map still be a good running bike without spray or will it be noticeably slower.

You can run a nitrous fueling map during NA. Romans even suggested I might do that. The bike would run rich 6000 rpm and up. That would have a negative impact on hp but like the timing, probably not terribly noticeable. I think you would be able to tell the dif by the seat of your pants but probably not a big dif.

Yes, I was right about the fuel/ignition map switch. If you have a PC5 and IM, you can switch between two maps, both of which will have their own fueling and timing.

Below is my own assessment. I still have not used the Ignition Module. I think I concluded there was no real clear advantage to either brand unless you have some pretty specific needs.

I would have to actually hit my starter button to spray after flipping the switch. With the mps map switch it will swap maps at the same time I push the button. That way I'll be able to run a NA map until I push the spray/starter button.

What you said about the IM makes sense now. I remember reading somewhere that ignition control is in the DJ software but it isn't accessible until plugging in the IM. I feel like I'm getting a little better understanding on this.

As long as you have a separate switch that must be intentionally turned on to arm the NOS, the MPS map switch should be fine. It must be the same thing as the Dj map switch except it either interacts mechanically with the throttle grip or electronically with the TPSensor. I guess I would prefer to see that the switch was flipped before I hit the spray.
