I spoke to 2 of my boys one of them says he's in so one more is in he's not on a ZX14 or "R" but he's on a Connie so keeping the 14 strong!! For this event so far!!

Dave905, good talk we are still on plans are coming together. Spoke to Smartlock looks like he is in ill let him confirm himself.

I really thought this trip would have pulled more players in the mix with all the talk from last years Meet & Greet but hopefully more of you will join us we have about 30 days before kick stands up so get involved people this is why we have this style bike after all!!

Oh snap I almost forgot!! Mr. Apexlocator welcome to the group can't wait to meet you!!

Also we will be looking for the most scenic route down to the Dragon from the NYC area, so please let me know so we can enjoy the best way down. So all that can help thank you in advance.

Blackun' - Unless you're only looking to meet guys from this forum, you could post your invite on some of the other ZX14 forums. This one seems to be the busiest, but here are some others I check out:

H burg is just two hours south of me. I've cleared my schedule for that week so I may join in for the entire time. Of all the motorcycle things I've done, this is getting me the most excited, due to the love of our bikes! LOL

I have 50 liters of Kriega storage plus a nice Joe Rocket tankbag PLUS a nice 20l backpack!!! I can take home some tee shirts while having enough room for all kinds of riding gear options. The weather in the mountains is always changing!

I'll take a look at the map to see if I can suggest any good routes from NYC.

THIS is how we have FUN !

Two ways to go from NYC.

Most direct is 78 west to 81 south

Another more scenic way is 95 south (sucks) to 66 west at the Washington Beltway (still sucks) to 29 south where it gets nice. Then 33 west to Harrisonburg, VA where it is excellent.

Take a look at GoogleMaps to see what I mean

I checked the map and I'm less than two hours away from H burg. I plan to stop in Winchester first along the way, then it's about another hour. We might even be able to meet up in Winchester at a fuel stop.

The coolest thing is that our bikes are very happy on the "slab" as well as back roads. Great practical bike!

Extrapolator, Thanks man the 1st 2 years we did this I tried posting over on thoughs forums not bikeland but got very little to no response at all over there so I felt that this forum had the biggest Community but 3rd times the charm, right?

Apexlocaror, That's what I'm talking about! I will check those routes and see which one works best and we will definitely work out a meeting spot so we can all roll into town together.

This picture was taken the day I picked mine up and fell in love.

Now she has 2,000 miles on the clock and is ready to roll. But I might need tires.

Maybe I can buy some down there?

I'm staying at the Best Western on Sat. so we will meet up on some exit on 81, possibly Verona VA because there is a McDonald's right off the exit on the right. I'll ride to it and confirm the exit number, etc..

Private emails and cell numbers should be exchanged as we get closer in

That's interesting, Apex: I've got 3200 mi on my OEM tires and have been thinking they're crap for quite some time. Got a new set sitting in my office waiting to be installed before a 1200-mi ride early Sept.

These tires dive into turns so hard that it's more of a fall in than a normal turn, so I'm fighting the fall rather riding into and thru it.

I've tried airing them up a little, and that helps a little but doesn't last, and they're prob too aired up at that point.

I bought a set of Pirelli Supercorsas for my Triumph but might use them on the 14 instead if I need them there first. You can't "waste" money when it comes time to tires that really perform well because the bike becomes extraordinary in the turns with better rubber, I'm a believer.

All that is between the bike and the ground is the rubber its rolling on. I know how to be cheap as Hell, but not when it comes to my tires! LOL

Did you book the Best Western off 81 & 33 in Harrisonburg for Saturday the 12th?

Dave 905, I did not book a room yet. But I will if that's what we are doing. Maybe a group rate? I'm staying tuned for instruction, lol.

EZX, wow, 40 years! I'm glad to be in the good company of a fellow geezer sport rider! I go back about 33 years myself. I got my license when I was 28. I'm strapping on my bags and taking my 14 out on the highway tomorrow about 250 miles to NJ, staying in Bayonne and have a dental visit at my friends office in Jersey City on Monday morning then riding back with Italian Bread in my bags. They are 100% waterproof! I think I might get lucky with the weather though. The road sucks back and forth but I'll still enjoy riding, thanks to our great machines!

Sorry to hear that. It wouldn't be a motorcycle if you couldn't crash. Lessons learned go a long way, unless it was wildlife and we need to accept that as a twist of fate sometimes.

Hey guys!

So, my itinerary is set. I'll be riding into Harrisonburg, VA on the 12th of September. Booked a room at the motel 6 on Linda lane. Just off 81 at 33. No frills room but it was cheap and I like how I can park directly in front of the room. Have a room booked at deals gap motorcycle resort for the 13th - 16th. As of now I'm coming solo with possibly one other (not on a zx14 but on one in spirit lol) but I'm not holding my breath because he's on the fence if he can make it.

That being said, I believe black1 is coming from NY with one other confirmed but I haven't been able to reach him the last couple of days to confirm. Joe, give me a call when you can.

Apexlocator: we can meet up Saturday night or sunday morning, which ever you prefer. Just keep in mind that would make for a long ride for you on Sunday from Berkeley Springs - Hburg - deals gap. Let me known what works for you.

EZX since you're doing Thunder in the Smokies, you'll be down there already when we roll in. You can most definitely meet up with us Sunday night, hangover and all! Lol

That's it from my end for now. As of today, deals gap motorcycle resort still had a few more rooms left if we want to keep everyone in one spot. Also a no frills room but its right at the foot of the action and a great experience for those who have never been.

Feels free to post up or just pm me any questions or concerns!

Dave

Extrapolator says what I say, OEM tires suck! I just got back from a two day 600 mile ride and now have 2900 miles on the bike and am thinking of replacing the tires just before the September trip next month. Is it a waste to put real high performance tires on a 14, or is it wise because we have traction control if it rains?

Depends what kind of riding you do. Here in Ontario, roads are long and straight before we get a few turns then long and straight again. Lol I tour so for me it would have to be a dual compound sport touring. For the longevity and soft sides when I want to enjoy the twisties.

There is a shop 15 minutes from deals gap. (Wheelers) good guy, does good work and always has tires on hand but I cannot speak on prices.

Ok so from the north New York area its me, Smartlock42 and maybe 2 more ZX14 we are trying to decide weather to ride down or trailer them down either way we will be there we will be heading down Friday September 12, 2015. I gave a call to the to see if they are able to make it still waiting to hear back form them..

Apexlocator, I never ran the stock tires on mine I have Polit Power Pures, there ok really don't last long up here in NY.

Extrapolated, Hey are you going to make it out with us or not we would love another ZX14 to join in on the fun.

EZX, Can't wait to meet you as well it's going to be a blast with whom ever shows up!!

We will put a group text together once we get closer to the date and know all the players involved. So far there's still only 3 people on the list.

Guys - Would love to, but I'm going the week before you! 2 buddies and I are putting our bikes (and us) on the Auto Train overnight from FL to VA and then riding Skyline Drive and the entire BRP to Cherokee NC, then Deal's Gap and all the surrounding roads ... and eventually riding home ... whenever our hearts are content! Beside the train ride up, no set schedule! Ride during the day, then re-check the map that eve to figure out tomorrow's ride! Rinse and repeat!

Can't remember if I mentioned it, but 1 of my buds going is a pro photographer, and he just bought a drone with a 4K camera! He can 'anchor' it in the air for unique vid angles. He also bought their 'cinematic' package (video enhancement software) with it. Hope to have some fantastic footage afterwards I can post.

Great ride to y'all!

EZX:we'll see you Monday morning.

Now we just have to hope for decent weather or the whole thing falls apart. If a storm develops, Motel 6 is not a problem but Deals Gap Resort wants 48 hour notice, so we stand to loose the first night if that happens.

I'll buy new tires at Wheeler's on Monday, after my OEMs have a good 3500 miles or so on them.
