Now we just have to hope for decent weather or the whole thing falls apart. If a storm develops, Motel 6 is not a problem but Deals Gap Resort wants 48 hour notice, so we stand to loose the first night if that happens.

I'll buy new tires at Wheeler's on Monday, after my OEMs have a good 3500 miles or so on them.

Frank, that gives us until Friday afternoon to check the long range forecast and make a decision. That's plenty of time. I'm sure it'll be fine. I'm eager to try my new Oxford sport panniers soft luggage. Just came in today.

Luggage that you can easily remove is nice. It's fun to pack and explore the possibilities of storage options each trip....my new thing now is the Kreiga strap together ensemble that is like a work of art as you create any configuration you want with multiple bags, lol. It's like playing with bags as a little kid would. They actually strap together better with shit in them, not empty. So the down side is wanting empty space to go shopping by motorcycle. Also it's a real PIA to get inside the bags after they are all strapped down tight.

On the up side, they are pure joy to play with because of the ingenuity genius inspired creation they are plus 100% waterproof and will safely carry your goods to a destination and easily come off the bike and inside the motel. YES!

I'll pack my cold weather gear just in case but I think we should be fine down there that time of year.

Yes, riding to a fixed date will get you a wet ass. It's prime hurricane season.

Since it takes me two days to ride home from Deal's Gap, I'll be looking for any storm activity myself. More of a safety issue for me, even with traction control, those tractor trailers can take you out in a heartbeat!

I don't like riding near semi's even when the weather is perfect.

My 14 is waterproof been tested many times. Apex let me get this straight, your going to ride to the dragon
then wait for a set tires to be installed instead of riding ?

EZX, you have a great point. I should have my new tires on when I leave and they will be all scrubbed in by the time I'm there, about 600 miles. Waiting around there like an idiot is dumb and a waste of precious riding time! Also, I can enjoy the ride down on brand new tires! I have 3,000 on my original Bridgestones now and also a month to rack up another 600 or so easily and I can feel good about tossing them in a few weeks.

Good point!!

Well, I priced Angel GTs at Wheelers. 475 installed

Priced at my local shop for Michelin Pilot Road 4s 483 installed and 445 for the Pirelli's

Needless to say, I am getting them put on Saturday 9/12, on my way to Harrisonburg! I'll have about 100 miles on my tires when we meet up! I am going with the Pilot 4s

(smiling)

Excellent choice, now you'll have confidence on wet roads.

Doesn't seem worth saving a few bucks to risk something going wrong and messin' up your trip. YMMV! Seriously, it might!

Wheeler's is in NC, and MORE expensive. I'm saving money by riding down with the new tires already installed! What I really like is that my local shop will put them on for me as I leave town on my way out to Deal's Gap! The first day is only 2 hours for me, staying in Harrisonburg to meet up.

Winchester VA is on my way, about 45 min. toward Harrisonburg, and I'll get the tires on 9/12 !

This gives me the rest of the month to burn up my OEMs, which I'm doing quite nicely. I cannot believe how much I am enjoying this bike! And I have a Triumph and a Ducati to ride, love them as well, but this Kawi is really the shit on the open road! I just love the luxury! Maybe I am getting old after all!

If cruisers were all that, I'd certainly have one. I had a RoadGlide with hopes of extreme comfort, the bike actually sucked ass and I hated it after a while. You sit like an idiot, perched up like you want to eat bugs all day and it handles like a horses ass and the wind turbulence finishes off the horrible experience. How can people ride such SHIT and call it good?

Anyway, my HD days are finally OVER. When I want a fuckin rumble, I get on my 999.

Apex - Sorry if I was confused or confusing. I thought you were saying you're going to start your ride toward NC and buy new tires either along the way or in NC itself. Neither seemed like a good idea, to waste time waiting around at a cycle shop, or risk having something go wrong (however unlikely), and then having to ride the new tires easy for a while ... all instead of just riding

My shop called and gave me the good news. They WILL put my tires on on Saturday 9/12 at 10 AM even though they are doing their open house that day. I'll be rolling out of there and on Route 81 about 90 minutes from Motel 6 before noon. After some good rest, perhaps a nice cigar, I'll be anxious to meet up with the group and plan our attack for Sunday.

Black 1 are you planning Motel 6 on Rt. 33 for Sat.?

It's just plain embarrassing to trailer a ZX-14, except to the drag strip.

Whenever I trailer I like to choose a place to leave the rig and ride the rest of the way, like a Walmart that gives me permission to park there for a few days. I like my plan, new long life tires and ride the motha' on the slab!

Black 1 do you like spicy strong flavorful intense cigars like Diesel or New World by AJ Fernandez? I'm a fan of Nicaraguan cigars over Dominican Republic. I'll have some for us for Sunday and Monday night!

I"m hoping your group decides on riding down. If ass gets sore, plan on a cushion of some sort and a few breaks. 40 mpg is better than most any trailer rig will hope to get and passing trucks is always a pleasure. On the down side, the weather may interfere and that indeed sucks.

It's always touch and go until a day before when you can get a handle on weather, but by that time if a storm is brewing I just bail on the whole thing myself.

Suches, S.E. COG Rally RWTW Sept. 9-13 There should be plenty of 14's C-14's & C-10's.
They're a club you join for the motorcycle but continue for the people.
