Moto GP Rearsets TO GO OR NO GP THAT IS THE ?
01/10/14 4:57 PM

Hey,
I sourced a set of Vortex rear sets. I want to get the GP set up, ie, one up, and all down. Exactly 180 difference from the standard set up. If I am smashing and pushing down on shifts (formerly up shifts) I should save one tenth a second and, in theory, be faster!
Thoughts folks???

The greater advantage is stronger, more authoritative up shifts with much less chance of jumping out of gear under high load.

I say go for it.

In my opinion, it takes practice to get used to the GP setup. If your goal is to go faster, maybe you should get more info on an electric, air or quick shifter. Just my

Kofla great suggestion! Kind of takes the sport out of it though!

Hagrid, I'm going for it!

copy THAT!!

and if you want to really get some quick shifts in go GP and get a quickshifter to boot. I don't need the extra .1 seconds between shifts but the quick shifter ads significantly to the excitement factor. Here you can hear in gears 2-3-4-5-6 ...I don't use it between 1-2....not WOT too much torque. The immediate snap into the next gear is like a rocket ingniting!

sorry for posting this again. go to 2:08 for the QS action. That is not peaking the rpm but you get the idea. As mention, Wolfie, I would feel much more confident of every clutchless shift if it was a stab down rather than hauling the lever up...The more awkward movement of lifting the toe is better sooted for downshifts which are slower and more deliberate aided with a throttle blip and clutch.

you can get QS with autoblip and do clutchless downshifts and upshifts. Now that there would be totally the SH!T, man!!

and there's this

There are a couple threads about GP shift setup. The linkage rod interferes with the fairing so you need to cut a tiny piece away from the edge of the lower fairing or else someone had luck by installing the front rose joint of there Vortex rearset to the inside of the knuckle ----or something like that.

Looks like the 14r does not have the interence with the fairing/kickstand like the old 14

Satos require a whole new shift lever for GP shift. Over a hundred bucks for that part...Vortex, you just invert the knuckle on the shift shaft.

Rook,
Thank you sir!
You and Kofla are on the money with the quick shifter. This is going to be a fun summer.

Wolf i have the anorturi quick shifter on my track/street zx10...man it is soo sweet..full throttle up shifts are so smooth almost feel like i have an automatic trans. i use the gp shift...on that track i can actually up shift while leaned over in a corner and it doesn't upset the bike while corneing. i was looking at getting it for the zx14 but i either need to get adjustable rearsets or modify the shift peg on the zx14 to a standard one. There is a link i posted about it on here somewhere. The thing i like most about the anitori quick shifter is that it is a stand alone unit that connects directly to the spark plugs and shift rod. Works independtly of ecu or pc5,,,ect..and has a digital sensor that will work with either gp or standard shift.

there is a guy selling the anitori quick shifter on another forum. here is the link.

Man once you go gp shift you'll never look back...takes a little getting used to. Also using the quick shifter. As I'm used to letting off the throttle to do up shifts. Sometimes miss shifts. Lol.
But once you get used to it...
And your gone.

I utilized GP shift on my old 600RR and never went back. I would do it again in a heartbeat if it was a free mod like it was on that bike.

My buddy has a nice ZX-6RR and he runs the GP Shift pattern. Wicked little bike!

I want that Annatori shifter!

Does anyone know if the stock 2010 and up zx10 rearsets will work on the zx14. If so you can get the rearsets and shift rod and do the gp shift. Would make it also easier to use the anitori setup. Without having to get adjustable rear sets?

If those parts are not interchangeable between models, I'm sure a small, simple adapter plate could be made of steel or heavy gauge aluminum. There was a guy who was making and selling such a plate years ago so that 14 owners could adjust the stock footpegs back and up just the way that aftermarket rearsets do.

sorta like this idea here.

just occurred to me that MOST missed shifts with my HM shifter happen because I am tucked in extra low. You can see that in my video above. The problem is the shifter is very sensitive and it is very hard to shift by pulling the toe up when crouched way down on the fuel tank. X2 with leathers on (and the ones I'm wearing that day are TOO tight). So -- GP shifting would be a good adaptation for upshifting while laying flat. As I indicated in the video annotation, I don't setting the sesitivity can help also but I think going with less sensitivity may be better so that the thing will only react to definite inputs.
