Thanks guys! I'm going to head back there August 31 n Sept 1 for one more shot at it. I am really leaning towards getting a NOS kit just for this run. I'm sure the bike would hit 200 without it but I don't want to get up there and have the wind be a factor again....

I guess the important thing is that you beat his speed. Just keep it safe.
185 v 177 ??? OMG I would be satisfied with your run but I'd be a buit disappointed if I were the busa guy. Must say, I'm a bit surprised. I always feel the busa feels a bit more sure footed at high speed than my 14.
.I have to say it's a pain in the butt trying to do this the right way and not on some highway some where.

Yes I had the ECU flashed and ran it past 200 on the dyno it was the 15 to 20 MPH head wind that was stopping me. Because the next day a ZX14 with a little less power hit 200.559.

Seems like they could just just picked everything up, moved a mile and a half down the road, and run the other way... ;)

"200 mph isn't the magical mark to achieve it was 30, or even 20 years ago"....yeah...especially if yer afraid of speed and 'hitting the ground'LOL!!!!
"Anyone with $20k can do it now"...let's see...zx14..paid for....and...a rear sprocket.Somehow that seems a tad UNDER 20K..... Unless...sprockets suddenly jumped...several thousand a shot?You'll get yer 200 T-shirt.....stay frosty!...at 200 mph...you aint gotta worry about 'hurting yerself"....you'd be unconscious after the first hit....wouldn't feel a thing my man...so don't worry about that!Get yer 200...you will!You crash?You wake up either dead or under sedation....so think positive!

I hear your pain somefun. I'm very disappointed I never did a top speed run on my lady before I lost her. 160 was all I ever did which seemed like I was hardly pushing her. So good luck to you in the upcoming trial. I do have to agree with Grn a little. 200 on the 14 has to be squirrelly as hell. Talk about ass pucker! But then you definitely have more time into setup on yours than I ever dreamed of doing.
On a side note. I'm surprised everyone is still using the GoPros. I saw a video about the ReplayXD on Jay Leno Garage and it seems so much more conducive to high speed. Kinda shaped like the contour. Small circular area of drag and a firm mounting system as opposed to a clumsy square box on the end of a rod. Price wasn't bad either. -$.02

Hi Somefun. First and foremost congrats for getting out there and "doing it". Don't be disapointed at not hitting 200mph. By the sounds of things you have been bitten by the bug and will be back there in September. So, you have all that information and experience that you gathered this trip which will help you prepare for your next attempt in September.
Myself and two friends will be heading down to Bonneville Salt Flats in three weeks time with two Tridents. One is still a 750 and I will be one of two riders on that bike and the other Trident has been punched out to 1000cc. which the owner (who owns both bikes) will be riding. Last year I took two records on the Trident and have put the bike in a different class this year hoping to take a third record. The record I am chasing this year is about 129 mph and last year I was running them speeds so with a faster set up this year, the bike is well capable of breaking that record, but as we all know, Its Not Over Till The Fat Lady Sings!
The 1000cc Trident is running about 84RWHP and with a stab of nitro its about 94 95 RWHP. Last year while still naturally aspirated it ran 193mph so 200mph is the goal this year. If the carbs won't do it then the nitro will!
If any body is going to the BUB Speed Trials at Bonneville let me know.

Hey Somefun,
This is Dan with the silver 14 at Loring.
Good to meet you and your buddy, glad you guys made it home safe.....I know you got a late start out of there, kinda hard to leave wasn't it?
You both done great, seemed like you two were having a blast.
Good luck at the September meet, keep us posted.

We're doing good.
Heading out in two weeks for a cross-country motorcycle trip (not the 14) for the month of September.
Planning on being home for the Wilmington, Ohio meet the last week-end of September. Don't know how far it is for you but it's a nice event and the weather should be nice & cool.
You guys come run with us if possible. It's about 30-45 minutes northeast of Cincinnati, right off the I-71.
Take care & ride safe,
Dan

Dan that somes like a great ride for sure! what are you guys going to riding? The run in OH that's a mile right? My buddy is going to have some head work and cams installed looking to be able to keep up with my bad girl! lol
We are riding sometime in Sept or Oct back to maine for our annul fall ride....In two weeks I'm riding with a few customers to Quebec to go to one of our Mfg's. That should be a fun ride for sure but these guys ride full dressers so it might be a long ride for me....lol Good luck with your ride. I have to do that for sure one day. Where are you guys riding to? CA?

I've got a Versys that I use for sport-touring, it's perfect for back roads & twisties. I'm planning on staying away from interstates & will ride to Bonneville for the World of Speed event at the Salt Flats, down to California, pick up Route 66 at Santa Monica and ride it to Chicago then back home to Tennessee.
Leave out in two weeks and can't wait!
Ohio is a one mile event, super nice facility.
Here's a shot of the Versys, I also have a Givi trunk not shown.
Dan
