I want an '11 but plan to wait until next year when the discounts become available and all the smoke starts to clear. If the bikes are good and reliable I think it would be a great one to own. The looks are starting to really grow on me, especially since seeing Garths bike all tricked out with the Leo Vince and Marchesinis.

Will this bike beat the Beemer on the dyno and the dragstrip? No, I think not, not even in Euro specs, where it will dominate the Beemer, I believe, is on the racetrack.

where it will dominate the Beemer, I believe, is on the racetrack.

...but will it dominate the Honda?

Saw an article about the S1000rr doing 202 mph in England. Stock bike with no mirrors or turn signal lights, taped fairing gaps, -3T rear sprocket, PCV and Akra full system....and a small, experienced LSR pilot.

I'm sure the Honda was one of the bikes the 10R development team had in their crosshairs. From what I saw of the testing at Autopolis, the '11 was 2 seconds a lap faster than the '10. That should put it well ahead of both the CBR and the BMW. We shall soon find out, let the games begin!

Wow, those electronic controls look very useful, wheelie control-keep it from flipping! I like, I think this will come to all models with lots of HP soon enough.

Here is the best "real world/real owner" review I've found on the new 10r.

QUOTED FROM HERE

New Poster With 2011 Ride Impression

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello boys and girls of the zx10 forum,

While I have visited this forum many times in the last few years, I have never posted. Now that some of the rhetoric of the 2011 zx10 has died down, and now that several of you will finally be getting your bikes in the next week or so, I thought that there might be some members that would like to hear a different riding impression than the few that have all ready been given on this forum.

My riding impression is based on the fact that I have been riding one around the back roads of San Diego Cali for the past 7 weeks (over a 1300 miles so far ).

Before I give you my impression on this fantastic machine, let me state a few things about myself first. I am 49 years old, and my profession is that of a design engineer for the motor sports industry. (I get to design cool hi-end aftermarket parts for bikes, cars, and light trucks.) Motorcycling to me is much more than a hobby; it’s a life style. Yes I am addicted.

Out of the 50 plus new street bikes I have owned, most have been sport bikes. Including the original 84 900 ninja, an 86 1000 ninja, an 04 zx10, an 05 zx636, and an 08 zx10. I also have time on a BMW s1000. I have many street, canyon, and track miles under my belt. And I am considered an expert level rider, one step below someone who makes their living racing motorcycles.

The reason that I state this is not to boast, but to give a point of reference from where my riding impression for this machine is coming from. Having said all that, on with my evaluation of the 2011 zx10.

Visually:
First let me say that, (in my opinion) in the flesh this bike is the best looking production bike Kawi has ever made. Yes, it doesn't photograph all that well. And the tail section could have been better. But still very “new age looking.” The next generation, if you will. Also, with the exception of the flat paint on the black versions gas tank, and the cheesy black sticker stripe on the green version, (remember this is my opinion) the fit and finish is a new high for Kawasaki.

Rider interface:
The ergonomics are a big improvement over the 3rd Gen model. You sit in, not on, this bike. It is just easier to become one with the bike. The new seat, peg, and wider handle bar relationship are a big improvement over past models. The faster you ride this thing, the better it feels. In the “hang off and rail the corner" position, this bike, and your body, really flow together. The bike is small, but there is a lot of room to move your weight around. Love the adjustable pegs. Love the frame less windshield. Love the LED tach.

I have easily done a few three hundred mile days on this thing no problem. And that's with screwed up motorcross knees. Not bad for a super sports bike. If you couldn't tell, I dig the ergos.

Chassis:
In my opinion Kawasaki finally built a proper frame for their premier sport bike. While the old frame looked bad ass, it never was going to be as good as a more conventional design. And the new shorter swing arm seems to work quite well also. Enough said.
Brakes:
The brakes of the Gen 4 are very much like the Gen 3*same initial bite, with a tad more stopping power after that. The bike is 20 + pounds lighter after all. No feedback on the abs version, as I have never been a fan of them on a bike. But that's just me. (A side note to those who are interested, when using the kawi racing ecu on the KIBS equipped bikes, abs is deactivated.)

Suspension:
The front fork is the best stock fork I have ridden on a Japanese bike. I even like it better than the Ohlins r&t fork that is fitted to the Euro sport bikes. I like how easy it is to adjust and that I can tell a difference in its reaction with a few clicks. But their best trait is how they react under braking*very little dive. I am heavier than average, and require most of the available spring preload to get the ride height close to optimal. But even so, while the fork is firm, it is still fairly supple. Of course I will modify it in the near future, but it is damn good for stock. A lighter more moderate rider might not have to change a thing.

The new rear shock and linkage set up also works well. In my opinion, the shock isn't quite as good as the fork, but it damn sure helps the rear tire hooked up. And beside it just looks cool laid down. Like the fork, adjustment is easy. I am running near max on the spring preload adjustment to get close to optimum ride height. Plus I also have a 6mm ride height shim installed to help the bike turn in just that much better. But, for optimum performance, for my weight and riding ability, the rear shock will have to be replaced.

Handling:
In my humble opinion, this is the best part of the new zx10. Straight line hi-speed stability is very good, even with the non existing dampening in the factory steering stabilizer. The way this bike can be flicked into a corner is very much like a smaller 600 machine. The transition from corner entry to corner apex is excellent. Mid-corner stability is very good. Much improved tendency for the front wheel to stay where you put it, stay on line, and not run wide. Much closer to my Duc 1098 than my 3rd Gen bike. And then....then the best part. This f"n thing fires out of a corner like no production bike has a right to. Combined with level one traction control, the way this bike exits a corner is what I live for. Beautiful rear wheel drifts all day long. And that's with the stock bt-016 tires on (not a fan of the tires). With some sticky dot race tires, oh hell ya. You guys are going to truly love this part of the bike. Trust me on this one. Like I said, to me this is without a doubt the best part of owning a 2011 zx10.

Electronics:
Simply put, this is the best traction/wheelie control available on a production bike*way more fluid then the s1000 (again my opinion). Level 3 to me is useless. Even on wet or dusty roads it is just too intrusive for me. Level 2 is much better for this type of road surface. But what I mostly used Level 2 for was to get familiar with the system, and build trust in it. After I gained confidence in the system, it was on to Level 1*and I never looked back. Like I stated above, long smooth rear wheel slides all day long. You have to trust the system. But once you do.... you instantly become a corner-exit god. And damn if this thing isn't constantly adapting to the way I ride. Way cool.

Same thing for wheelie control. Going up over a rise or dip on the gas and accelerating at 55 or 155. Doesn't matter. Front wheel comes up maybe 12 inches, and then you feel the electronics kick in, the front wheel sets down, and off you go. No lifting of the throttle required. No drama. However it does take some time to trust the system, as rider instinct is to roll off. Once the trust is there... let her rip. One side note: some reports have said that the rider can hardly hear or feel the electronics kick in. I have found this not to be true, especially with a performance exhaust fitted. You can fully hear and feel the bike dialing back the power. Reminds me of the first time I ever heard the Yosh bikes fitted with traction control, running in the AMA. I personally think it is a bitchin’ sound. Long live the electronic age!

Regarding the power modes. I simply have no use for them. Never have. Full power mode please.

Engine & transmission:
Oh yes. The source of all the drama. First power limits in the U.S, and then a tech hold. Yes, I agree with most. That did suck. Now it’s time to get over it. Kawasaki stepped up and fixed the tech hold, and it is going to be easy to unleash the bike. Trust me on that one. Besides, this thing is fast even in restricted form. With the exception of the s1000, (a bike that doesn’t play by the epa rules.) it has the highest rear wheel production hp in the super sport sector.

This is one of the smoothest engines ever put in a motorcycle. It virtually has no buzz whatsoever coming through the bars and pegs. The power band is very linear as well. Very quick revving. There is no hit. Just a fluid rush of power building to a ripping top end. It makes the bike very easy to ride fast. The power is very accessible. In my opinion, that makes the bike more fun to ride. And all of this is in restricted form.

I must say this bike responds very well to exhaust tuning. (I know a thing or two about this subject, as I have designed and build literally hundreds or exhaust systems over the years.) Just by installing a good performance silencer, plus cat/valve eliminating link pipe (we designed and built a couple of hi-end prototypes of our own, thank you very much), you gain substantial power though out the rpm range. Plus the thing reeves out even quicker. Unless you like to spend money just for the sake of it, leave the stock header alone, as there will not be much gain for your money. Spend it on ecu tuning. That is where you will get the most bang for your buck. Again, trust me on this. Get a good cat eliminating slip-on. Add a good ecu that addresses the secondary issue, while adding some fuel and ignition timing. (The after market will have them soon enough). And bang! Big time performance increase. That's all I have to say on that matter.

I like the new transmission gear ratios. However the shift action could be better. Final drive gearing may be a little tall for some. Kawasaki has always had one of the best slipper clutches in the business. And the 2011 version is the best one yet. It just flat works.

The bottom line is this. The previous Kawasaki zx 10s were bikes that had great motors, with OK to good handling. The new zx10 is a bike that has great handling, with a good motor. And usually, that's the bike which is the most fun to ride, and fastest around a race track. Just sayin’.

And that about wraps up my evaluation of the 2011 Kawasaki ZX10 R. I sincerely expect it to be sport bike of the year!

That pipe looks sweet! Any guesses on the manufacturer?

I don't want to rain on anyones parade here but before we all lapse into a state of euphoria, I thought you might want to check out this article from RoadRacing World where they track test the new 10R. They didn't say it's a bad motorcycle but at least in their opinion, it is not a standout machine like the BMW S1000R was. When Chris Ulrich ponders whether the new 10R will be able to keep up with Honda's four year old CBR1000RR.....that ain't good. Read it and draw your own conclusions.

Oh, I didn't write that. Just passing it along... but YW. I wish I was riding a new 10r down in SoCal right now!

Always good hear different impressions. Thanks for posting that, Kruz.

VAnce and Hines?

Hmm... Cali company... looks a bit like the CS one... could be.

Looks to me like a Brock's?

I was thinkin' Area P... but funny you should say that...

Area P is developing a full-length exhaust system for the ZX-14. This system is being designed for an exhaust manufacturer, but Kerry was tight-lipped about who it is.

Inside Area P: No Limits, Aug. 10, 2007

I've heard rumors that Brocks CT is manufactured by a Japaneese company... but as I hold one in my hand, the flanges look Area P to me.

Anyhow, don't wanna take this thread too far off course... just things that make me go hmmm.

Ya...Vance and Hines...thanks Rook....that's what I meant to begin with.Looks like those one's for the 14.

Kruz has the right thoughts here...I'm not gettin a ten....but I want to at least ride one...my dealer's gettin one in February.I don't want to rag it...just take it out on the straight by their shop and see how the engine and ergos feel.Vibration wise.MAYBE a 1/4 mile drive or so.IDK IF he'll let me even do that?It would technically be....a "used bike" then wouldn't it?

I read the latest issue of Cycleworld...about the 10R.THAT guy seemed to feel pretty stoked over it?

....or a demo model. When I was shopping, I looked the bikes over very close. Never saw a new bike with oil but i found a couple with gravel in fairings/on top of pipes. ???????????? WTF? They say the bikes all get run a few miles at the factory and they all get rolled around the shop plenty --but gravel in the fairings? ShEET, I took a flashlight with me to look my busa over. The sales guys were sweating their a$$e$ off. I had a grand down for delivery but I was close to walking. good thing I loved that bike as much as I did. Less than pristine finish on the paint compared to my 14 that sat right out in the parking lot and had 11,000 miles. I am a picky f***er. Don't ever sell me something I really want. You'll be sorry. heheh. I really try to be nice but i am such a PITA>

All depends on what yer after.Natch Ricky's gonna pump the 10...I don't see why not.Looks like a way bitchen track bike...no doubts about that.Fast as hell.Plenty of excellent stuff on it.Very sweet.Flagship techno parts. They did an excellent job re-creating this baby.I'd probably get one...IF...I had a track around here. But I don't.And my 14's kickazz enough for me.I'm happy with her.My bike is perfectly suited for the kind of roads and riding available here.I'd just get killed or lose my license at the very least with a blaster like that beautiful 10.I LOVE my 14.She's just enough to keep me alive out there.Restrained, but brutish enough to have a blast with when I want.
