Privateer, the burden of proof is on the courts. Regardless of them getting their license plate number, They have to prove who was in control of the machine. You do not have to be a witness for them either. You still have the 5th ammendment. You go in front of a judge, you do not need to testify, but ask the judge if he can convict you of a serious crime with out actually having proof it is you. He may ask you who it was then and your response is that you are not testifying.
Just because the is precident for it, does not mean they can convict you with out an admittance of guilt or proof you were the one operating it. It would be akin to the police saying "Well, we are pretty sure he was the operator so let's convict anyway."
If my car was spotted speeding you think they could get a conviction after the fact if they never witnessed me operating it?

Motorcycles are perfectly safe, as long as you don't fall off and you don't get hit by anything...

Ayyy BeanMeister mate, what are the penalties down under if you run and get caught?

When we were kids on our dirtbikes we'd never stop for the cops, just kept going til we could hit a dirt trail and then it was adios amigo. There was no license plate so they had to physically stop you which is way hard to do when we were on 125cc motocross bikes and they were in 4000lb Crown Vics. A few cop cars actually broke in half trying to catch some the kids, Dukes of Hazard type stuff.

Yes, but if you get off, the cops might still carry a slight grudge....and if no one is looking and they do not like you, they have been known to give a F**k about your rights.

^^^^ Here is the decision gate: pull over and hope, or scream "engine room! More power!!".

Either way... so many variables make predicting an outcome very nebulous. Helicopters or not... the Ghost rider's testimony stands undisputed.

Having SEVERAL friends that are currently LEOs(more than one is a State Trooper), NONE of their dash cams are high enough resolution to zoom in much at all to get a plate number from any kind of distance(no farther that can be read with the naked eye).

YOUR DEAD Right Their Rook when I lost my Licence for under the influence (DUI) a cop car was in front of me he slammed his breaks on & turned a sharp left me being a 17 year old got shitty & flashed him (hi-beam),I didn,t know there was another cop behind me so he put his lights on I pulled over,if it wernt for my mates damaging the front of the cop car & legging it I could of used them as a witness to the cop smacking & splitting my forhead open on his paddy wagon,I got angry and kicked him in the nuts lol then I had to say I didn,t know them I just gave them a lift, anyway after a beating in the police cell for the next two years I got constantly stopped and Harrased by the Law for that time,as far as them nailing you like stated before it depends on if it,s not clear cut & you get the jump on them ,it,s not something i,ve preplanned in the past but I certainly have escaped a few times in the past

Damn, if I lived in Dallas like Kruz I'd run every time...big cities with multiple lane highways, oh yeah. Especially if I had my hyper that I sold last Feb! Flickability and nimbleness on a bike are musts if you need to get away in crowded areas, not much you can do out here in NM when you've got 50 miles of desert until the next town, haha. I've run, broken a clutch plate and was caught...posted bail and spend thousands clearing my record. Very careful now when I push the bike more than 20 over, thankfully I have areas here with low risk of getting caught. Took my neighbor 170 Thanksgiving day and she will remember it for the rest of her life ;-)

I am an advocate of pulling over if the lights come on but one thing that always puzzles me is how bikers attribute
almost superhuman powers to LEO's, they're just people like all of us and donning a uniform and badge doesn't confer instant driving talent. These guys are driving 4000 lb Crown Vics with maybe 250-300 HP while we are on 450 lb sportbikes with 175 HP, do the math, that's about 13lbs per HP compared to about 3.5 lbs per HP and thats not mentioning we're on ultra sticky tires with race bred suspension and handling. Last but not least we are way more manueverable and can lane split and put our bikes places no car could think of going. I checked the distance tonight that I could read my license plate from and it's about 7 - 8 bike lengths, about 50 feet and that's static, not trying to control a 4000 lb vehicle at 100+ mph. Most riders could easily evade if they have any riding skills at all. That's pretty much what ghostrider proved. Now don't try this on the Oklahoma Turnpike, I hear they have a Hayabusa police interceptor.

Again not advocating running but I for one believe that LEOs chasing sportbikes at highspeed is plain stupid, it endangers the officer, the rider and other traffic. Way more people in cars have been killed by the police in high speed pursuit than anyone on a bike. In fact, I can only think of one incident where a motorist was killed by a bike.

You guys are right, I used to live in a small town back in the 90s and drove a Mitsubishi 3000GT, Arrest Me Red. I was racing a chick in a 300 ZX one afternoon and a LEO lit us up at 125 mph. I looked over at her and we both buried the throttle, I was parked in my driveway by the time he got turned around. Problem, I had the only 3000GT in town and I was harassed continually after that. I got pulled over one morning while under the limit and the cop illegally searched my car looking for any reason to bust me. Not proud of that episode and I ended up selling the car, too much heat. No, running is never a good idea, take your lickin and keep on tickin!

Not to mention, NM uses aircraft for traffic surveillance. You need to move up to Montana where you can run with Grn.
