Yup, I completely understand your viewpoint.
I considered naming my cycle "Scalpel" as I tend to use it surgically in "straight line" fwy commuting traffic. The HP to Weight advantage is a tremendous asset and not readily apparent to the untrained eye...
I named it "Lightning Bolt" for the sheer thrill of WOT.
Ummm, back to the OP's point, and your's. Yes, I agree, mileage varies on riding style, the type of pavement encountered over the tire life, the type of day (hot here, usually), so many things.
I really dont know if the OP can actually change anything he's not already doing, to increase the tire life, per-change-out.
It's probably as good as it's gonna get if he needs high mileage. I think not as many on this site are interested in that, they're more along the lines of Kruz's style, and willing to pay for it (as previously discussed).
That is, there's ways to decrease tire life, per tire change-out. Primary is selecting more sticky rubber. Do that, and tire life decreases, per change-out. So, IMO, the OEM tire (the M5) is a good consideration for those desiring high mileage between changes (which decision you've made with your wallet).
I'm hoping the "new" M5 will be even better. I hope to hear good things from you, since you will be able to now tell us, when you're ready. Please do...
