Grey Hair helps also.Looking down at the ground.Folding your hands in front of you...being sheepish...helmet off...and set on the seat.Standing several feet away from your bike."yes sir,no sir"...."you really should ride one of these"...that always helps."100 mph in two seconds..yes sir...she'll do that'..."Well...yes,I have..but not around here"..."you want to take er for a spin?I won't say anything"....

"Just be careful, lots of deer out here....slow er up some for me,okay?"....

"I will...promise.....thank you"...And then actually ride the speed limit..

Detectors....I've never been in a situation where one would have saved me.-Grn14

Well, Grn, you live in Montana and things are decidedly different there than they are most places when it comes to exceeding the legal limit. On the very ride/rally where you and I met personally, 4 of us were cooking along at about a buck thirty when we passed a constable headed the other direction. He immediately wheeled around and gave chase. Two of the group wicked it up even faster and disappeared. My friend (who you also met) and I pulled over to take our medicine. The cop looked at Mike's 14 and my ZZR 1200 and said to him, "You were in the lead, so you get the ticket." I was relieved and apprehensive at the same time as he took Mike's paperwork and license to the cruiser to write him up. When he returned, he handed Mike the ticket and said, "I'm gonna write you for 80 in a 70, but I think you were going a little faster than that. That'll be $20, no points, pay me". When I asked about Montana's former "no speed limit" policy, he told us the Feddle Gummit had threatened to withhold highway funds until Montana established speed limits and handed out speeding tickets, so he was just doing his part to get the State the money it needed to build and maintain the roads.

I wouldn't waste $300 on a radar detector if I lived there, either.

Mike got the ticket, not me, and I'd gladly pay ANY $20/no-points ticket. The ones I got before I got the R.D. cost a helluva lot more than that.

In all I've been stopped when riding 4 times and only once got a ticket...

Same history here but that was in 5 years of riding. Yeah, a couple talked about about riding. the others were not so cordial. The ticket was a doozie.

So, I stopped by Tucson Audio Express this week.

I wanted them to quote me a Blinder system, a laser jammer. They wont, and steer me to the Escort 9500ci.

Price as marked, $1600.00, uninstalled. It a radar detector, and laser detector / "jammer" ("shifter").

The radar detector is a box, then there's two more boxes that install in front for the laser system, and one more in the back for laser jammer system.

Then theres the ECU for the system, another box...

It's a bunch of gear to fit, and I look at it, and then I look at them. I tell'em, take pictures (while holding a measuring tape) and show me how you'll fit it. They have called me a couple times saying they can fit it, but I keep asking them to show me.

It's 2000.00 with tax and installation... Oh boy! What fun!

I think I can buy it for about $1050.00 retail, but the installation spooks me some (and I am an FCC Radar license holder, I was a ground radar tech in AF, ~2 megawatt stations my specialty).

I really like the Blinder, but it does not integrate radar detection, too bad.

I dont know much about the 9500ci, and dont know anyone that owns one.

I see you have a thread regarding radar detectors and jammers in Accessories. There is also this one if you have not read it. I think Scottjkyl will be the best person to ask about this. Haven't heard from him in a while. I would PM him to ask how his jammer has been working for him.

...and I hate to be redundant but every time I commenyt on this topic, I can't help but think:
"OK, it works. Won't stop a cop from stopping you for excess speed based on visual estimate --all along knowing he is also gonna search you for a laser jammer." If he can't pick you off with his laser and sees you slow way down as soon as he shoots you....?? Cops are not dumb.

Rook:

Yah, I understand your point. I'm still on the fence, mullin that price tag, and the logistics you've hinted at. At least, I'm allowed to do it (own one) in this so-backwards state I live in.

Here's the latest from <Sales@1stradardetectors.com>:

"Bob,

The Bel STi-R is the #1 radar detector in the world. I would combine it with an
HP-905 Dual for your motorcycle. $1300 + $600. We can provide discount for
combo systems. Leon is one of our partners in the countermeasures world, is
a good friend of mine and we carry his HP-905 laser jammer products. We can
provide both products or just the STiR, depending on how you wish to
purchase. The 9500ci is very good, but it forces you to buy the ZR4 laser
shifter which is a poor laser jammer compared to the HP-905. The HP-905 will
jam all laser guns and has WEB downloads. The ZR4 laser shifter does not
have web downloads."

...then me:

"I read that last sentence, (We can provide discount for
combo systems.) and it appears there is a further discount
for this combo?"

...and them:

"Bob, are you buying the STiR and HP-905 Dual, or just one of the two
products. If both, we will pay shipping, no taxes and provide a $75
discount."

...so, I'm still mullin it.
