this is a great post!
I need new boots and have no idea what to buy.
wide feet,3E 9.5-10 running shoe, must be ok for casual wear when off the bike.
I hate it when they don't reduce the sole beneath the arch, making it difficult to get my foot under the shifter... ICON field armor boot sucks ...

If you have wide feet stay away from anything made by Puma. I have a pair of Puma 1000 v1 and a narrow foot so they work for me. I also have a pair of Alpinestars SMX Plus and they are much more accommodating for people with wide feet. The SMX is "billed" as a race type boot but thats not the case at all they just don't offer the same level of protection as real race boots. The Alpinestars SMX plus is a good compramise for the street I can walk in them for several blocks if I have too.

I must admit that I too suffer from BAF Syndrome...Big A$$ Feet that is. Depending on the maker I wear a 14 or 15. Huge problem to find decent boots and add my 36" inseam and it really sucks.

1+

You and me both. Who wears double EE? Mail me your hand me downs. I'm wearing a pair of hand me downs because I can't find a store bought to fit my 14/15's, 'depending on maker.' Redwing has size EE I wear now, but the one shoe has cramPED my toes. Flip flops are first choice.

Tell me your heels burn on the upsweep of the stock pipe(s). I have to take a straight razor and slice the melted shoe I leave behind. Geeze is that an inseam there, admiral. I'm surprised the 14 fits you or are you as cramped as I am sitting on that bike.

Sidi Vertigo Mega Gore-Tex Boots are built as a EE width. Made out of Lorica, so there is no real break in period and they dry pretty quickly. But they are $$$.

These Alpinestars Ridge boots have worked out great for me.They are very comfortable, waterproof and are a perfect match for my Alpinstars bat pants.I think they are money well spent for just under 130 bones.

I removed the rubber off the stock pegs ~ Didn't help.
I bought Buell pegs ~ Didn't help, admiral.

They need to stop using Japanese test riders and then export product to them corn fed riders.

I'll have to let you know Hub...I have only been able to be on my 14 once since I purchased it on 12/31. That was only a 30 mile jaunt. I'm sure I'll still feel the pain on longer trips but there always the superman technique with throwing the feet up on the back pegs. I don't know if I can still do that...my last sport bike was 10 years ago. Since then it's been powercruisers.

Scottjkyl and I are in the same boat I to have a size 13 1/2 foot and is also wide and I have been riding in boots but not motorcycle boots looking at a pair of Sidi Air Vertigos dose anybody have any feedback on these? Went on the website www.newenough.com/closeouts/boots and saw a pair of White one for $219.00.

So my question is anybody with a big and wide feet have a pair of motorcycle boots?

I tried 6-7 brands of motorcycle boots trying to find a fit for my 13EE. I was looking for something cool as I only ride when the weather is above 50. Oddly the Sidi Megas were too wide and sloppy. My heel would come out of the "pocket". Regular Sidi. Alpinestars, Puma, Vega, Diadora, Teknik, FirstGear, all were too narrow. After 8-9 pairs of boots, and $40 in return shipping, finally the TCX Airtechs fit. Comfortable to walk in, they don't look like racer boots, thin enough not to interfere, BUT not as protective as they could be. Full zipper with 2 velcroed flaps. If you wear workboots, hiking boots, tennis shoes, or flip-flops (??!!) they are an improvement protection-wise. The air flows right through. Never tested them in the rain.

Before your criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you do criticize them, you're a mile away and have their shoes.

I need to replace these in town boots:

for ones that are good for long hauls and can be walked about comfortably as well... I'm about a 10 1/2-11 narrow. I stiff boot will drive me nuts. Anyone know of a pretty flexible boot?

This is what I have JDC and I think it would be great replacement for above. They are very comfortable yet protective. http://www.rideicon.com/product_details.jsp?category=3126&id=11073

hoopie, those got the biggest toe box and thickest sole I have ever seen for a bike boot.
I had a pair given to me and I fed them to my rottweiler.
I adjusted the gear lever so that I could actually get my toe under it, and then, I had to actually lift my foor off the peg to get my toe over the shifter....becuase iyt was adjusted soo high.
I am only a 9.5 Boot.

I am totally suprised anyone would recommend them...
No insults intended, but have you ridden with any other boot to compare?

A main interest I have is to be wearable off the bike for the day. Taller is ok but nothing bulky or restricting ride-n-walk-n-wear for the day.

for in town riding I wear alpinestars sm5's (I believe that is what they are called) they are a riding boot/shoe. They are very comfy for walking around all day and give decent support in the case of a laydown.

Dubious,
Yes, I have a pair of TCX boots but and they are much more protective than the Icons but not nearly as comfortable to walk around in all day. I wear my Icons to work while on my feet all day without any probems and they dont look like racing boots so they blend in with your casual wear jeans. As far as shifting, i dont have any problems with that on my R1 or 14. the key is how you position your foot so that you just nudge the shifter with the outs edge of the boot. If a person is use to wearing work boots while riding then wearing the Icons wont be a problem. If a person is use to wearing running shoes then it will be a pain due to the thickness of the boot.

The boots I ride with are ASOLO Fugitive GTX wide Hiking Boots Gore-Tex they very comfortable to walk around in all day an they are waterproof. I find that they are very easy to shift with but I'm really looking for a motorcycle boot now. They still make these boots but you can find they all day long on ebay real cheap for about $125.00.

The new boot that took it's place is the Superfly GTX they go for about $195.00

I ended up with these after visiting Chaparrel and trying all their boots the other day (tried 6 different brands.... all were too wide to fit, despite length being good.

The below were $17.00 internet and fit fine. I do not like tying shoes, though.
