I know this is an older thread, but I haven't seen it mentioned here. I read elsewhere that using a mechanics "stick" mirror is a great way to check the oil. I just picked up one at a flea market, and it works great. Sit on the bike flatfooted, extend the mirror and take a lookee loo. can get one cheap at harbor freight, or pay a bit more at your local chain parts store. advance, o'reilley's, etc.

if this has been posted elsewhere on this site, I apologize.

I never needed this on my 03 R1, it seemed to balance easier. plus the sight glass wasn't on the downward curved part of the case, as much. and maybe the lightweight bike was just easier to pull tword me. with the extra added weight of the 14, I just didn't feel right trying to balance it myself by tipping it off the sidestand.

Good tip. I've heard it offered before but it never hurts to keep everyone aware. I have one of those mirrors with the telescoping handle attached. Hafta try that although by this time, i know pretty much what to look for.

Rook what you are describing there is a monkey fuckin a football not someone checking oil.
That was funny. While we are in that mirror finish, where is your safety net? 'Brake on, in gear?' Something. You are talking to a few JoeA's if they need to step on that carpet, tell them to lift the bike and not only will it might move into the football, the football was inside the cabinet kind of roll?

Year dealing with humans, right? Anyone wanna step on that carpet, go right ahead. LOL

I park my 14 in a Baxley sport chock, and the busa gets the harbor freight 39.99 on sale knock-off. The Baxley is WAY better, but they both keep the bikes upright all the time, and make working on the bikes and checking oil levels much easier. Plus there's no way the bikes can get accidentally knocked over. Either of those would be money well spent in a bikers garage
