So that was your funny noise? Unfortunate but I don't see how those gouges will create a problem. Any chips of aluminum will just wash down into the oil pan. They might come out when you change oil or they'll get picked up by the screen.

In the photo, it looks like the nut is tightened down against a flat block molded inside the clutch housing. That can't be it. Did the nut come off your clutch mod?

That blue fire blowing out of the exhaust in the Proven Power Cycles video is really cool!

Nut is from the connecting rod for #4. Gotta find an MTC Billet Clutch Basket. They're lighter, stronger, but most importantly have a nice groove in the for extra rod nut clearance.

Yeah I saw that flame on decel. It was pretty sweet. A solid 10 second blue flame is not something I would complain about.

It's a thing of beauty! I love it!

...as is that new clutch basket. I haven't followed the Turbo section of the forum long enough but should you pin this thread BG? I know there's a number of owners who have posted their turbo evolution but this one for sure details the trials and tribulations of building a full on turbo 14R. I don't want to take a thing away from everyone who has contributed to the turbo section. I'll be reading all of it and hope to rely on you all when I go this route myself. However, I am really glad you just sprung up when you did danmin.

Here is a side by side of the clutch baskets. Stock 2012 and 2012+ MTC Billet

There is quite a lot more meat all around on the MTC. Feels like it weighs about the same. Maybe a couple OZ lighter.

Now that the bike runs and the oil pressure light issue has resolved (I had a bad oil pressure sensor), It's full steam ahead.

I threw the cooling system on. It's a little tricky with the new air filter taking up most of the real estate. Gotta cut one of the hoses to get it to huge the case close enough to not kick another coolant hose away from the bike too far.

I plugged in the boost gauge vacuum hose and put a "T" in the wastegate vacuum line to get a reading.

Installed fuel plate into gas tank, cut fuel hoses for best routing, attached AN fuel lines (a huge pain).

Installed the little radiator for the intercooler as well since you install it along with the radiator. The bottom support for the radiator no longer fits though. I think I'll customize the original one to fit around the turbo and also add an inch to it.

Also added some titanium bolts all over.

To Do List:

-Fairings
-Figure out blinking fuel gauge
-Figure out weird side horizontal frame thingies
-Try to mount Frame Sliders I bought
-Add coolant to engine
-Finish Intercooler install
-Install and cut battery covers
-Bleed front brakes after installing longer banjo bolt
-Find/buy missing wastegate bolt
-Install Idle Air Control system
-Fill up gas tank
-Adjust Balancers
-Go over entire bike with a torque wrench
-Double check entire bike's house routing
-Heat cycle the bike a handful of times
-Ride

I would be honored to be pinned in the turbo section. Lord knows I've been a guinea pig through it all. Hopefully this saves others some heartache when they decide to cannonball into the deep end of building a bike and turbo-ing it with only enthusiast experience.

Once this thing is wrapped up I'll write a little section with suggestions on the install, suggestions on parts, tools you need to order, extra epoxy you need, special thread sealer you want, etc etc. I'm thinking the saga will wrap up very soon.

Installed Idle Air Control system with BOV Spliced into it.
Installed battery covers
About to install New front brake banjo bolt.

This is how you resolve a flashing fuel level reading after using a block off plate on the gas tank.

- Disassemble fuel pump and get resistor cylinder and frame out of pump
- Separate pump frame and cylinder
- Cut to length and strip black wire (ground) and wrap around cylinder a few times
- Solder it all up as ugly as possible as long as it holds
- Cut to length and strip red and yellow wire to solder to cylinder wire
- Solder yellow wires together
- Waterproof (I dipped into rubber cement then wrapped in static cling)

NICE! There's that sound I'm looking for, that menacing, throaty snarl!

I haven't the foggiest what you did with your fuel level sensor but I'll cross that bridge when I get there. At least I know I have to do something with it.

I'm sure you're familiar with frame sliders on the ZX-14. They might help in a garage tip over but often cause frame damage in a crash at speed. Mine just caused a minor chip in the frame bung. The bolt snapped off which prevented more extensive damage. They're a nice aesthetic touch but I'm not sure if I'd use them again.

I'm looking forward to seeing and hearing more of the finished project.

Yeah Rook. sounds pretty nice. If I rev it anywhere above idle for a second or two you really hear the turbo start to spool. Check out the very first post again. I added the installation instructions if you wanted to get a sneak peak of the process. Someone on the Facebook group did their Stage 1 install in like a week. I'm jealous lol. Dyno tuner said they can get me in next tuesday or thursday. I just need to make sure I am all put together.

Intercooler lines and pump installed.
Gear indicator issue solved.
Oil pressure light resolved.

Huge complaint about debris inside of the intercooler system.

System uses 1 quart to fill from dry. Filled up intercooler system with Redline Supercool Extreme. Need to add some antifreeze since freezing temp is 32 degrees, unless you winterize. Look into it if running an intercooler. Very nice performance advantage versus normal coolant.

Gear indicator sensor is missing two springs and two brass plugs that rotate based on current gear. These fell out during disassembly, cleaning or assembly and weren't noticed. My buddy's wrecked gen 1 will supply new ones for me.

Oil pressure light stayed on after first start (scared the crap out of me). Reason was because of a used sending unit that came attached to the oil pan I decided to use. I bought a stock pan from Japan because I didnt want to starve the engine with too shallow of a sump. Swapped to my old sending unit and it works great.

So far everything is looking good. No leaks. Sounds pretty crazy. Once the turbo warmed up the spooling noise never ends. The neighbors could hear the whistle. Fueling is pretty funky. Doesn't like to idle unless you hold the throttle a little bit when cold. After it ran for 30 seconds like that it would run fine with no throttle input. One it got hot the AFRs went into the 20's. Maybe the sensor isn't calibrated right. Maybe there was an air bubble. Not sure. Gonna let the tuner take a look. Kinda weird.

-Cooling system filled and air bubbles cycled.
-Chain installed.
-Flushed and bled front brakes.
-Flushed and bled clutch line.
-Installed Coremoto Clutch line.
-Installed boost controller.
-Adjusted rear wheel length (130 chain links wasn't enough).
-Installed side brace.
-Coolant tank installed.
-Front sprocket torqued down with titanium nut.

To Do List:

-Fairings
-Install missing wastegate bolt
-Heat cycle the bike a handful of times
-Dyno
-Adjust Balancers
-Ride

First Warm Up
Second Warm Up. Dies at end then AFRs stay at 20 every start after.

I know you mentioned it earlier but what are you using for fuel management right now? I plan to go with the secondary ECU when I get mine. Yeah, you can't ride that thing with an AFR of 20. Something took a dump if the AFR was ok at first and then it went way lean.

The turbo sounds really cool! I get the sense of the pure open header sound from the video and I love it!

As for the shavings in the intercooler, WTAF? Where were the shavings in the intercooler? ...I mean did it go into the air box of your bike?

MicroTech ECU and secondary injector rail. RCC's Stage 2 fuel system. I looked at the stock injectors and two of them rattled themselves unplugged (connectors dont lock anymore. going to ziptie them all secure before dyno day). Plugged them back in and fired the bike up- back to 'usual' AFRs which were about 12. Pretty rich.

Turbo sounds great. Pretty unreal sounding machine.

I checked the intake track of the intercooler for metal when I received it. It had a few flakes in it. I cleaned it. Same with the turbo. Couple chunks. Little balls of metal the size of a flea, welding spatter. As well as small flake from cutting/grinding of some sort. Cleaned that out because no way was I gonna let that get sucked into the engine.

Metal flakes pictured appear to be from the tapping of the intercooler for the cooling system inlet. These are in the cooling system. I am looking into adding a coolant filter. I expected a little metal to clean out of stuff since it is a fab shop and they churn these kits out daily. I was hoping for a little cleaner of an experience given that I shelled out 12-13 grand or whatever it was for the kit and wasn't exactly met with an inviting checkout experience either.

Guess thats the trade-off for stuff fitting right up and bolting together right. Cant complain about too much besides that stuff. I am going to rework some of the instructions to break up the work a little better. IE- section 1: front of bike. section 2: routing hoses, so on, so on

Awesome. You did a lot of stuff all at once, just gotta get it ironed out.

Hoo boy. I'm a little disappointed. Just a little. I failed in business because I did too good of work though. I guess that's why you do these things because you love it, not to make a buck. I wouldn't want to trust a shop to do this. As I said before, at least if something doesn't go as expected, you know.

Anxiously awaiting!

There is a bike shop here for sale with two dynos. We have about 95% cruisers here and lots of ATVs. I'd love to own that shop if I could just break even and live as long as I could work. I already know I'd do everything too perfect. I would lose money.

Haha yeah having a shop is something that I think about sometimes, but I cuss and pull my hair out over my own bike plenty. I would hate to do valve jobs on sport bikes all day every day. Even if each one was a $1500 payday. And tuning bikes seems scary. I did a "DIY" tune on my Z1000 just to make it shoot 6 foot flames. Probably isnt good for it but its my own bike. Guess thats what shop insurance is for.

I've had a few people reach out about rebuilding their bikes or fixing issues with them. Sounds fun in theory. But with my luck something would go wrong and I'd get a letter from their lawyer 2 months later.

I'll stick with working on my own stuff and some friend's... And if you end up buying that shop you better give me some free dyno sessions.

Dyno day is scheduled for this upcoming Tuesday. Scary.
