Anyone using a rear hugger with a 190/55 rear tire?
Is so, which hugger?
I need to get a rear hugger, but I am worried about my 190/55 tire rubbing on it. I had to take the hugger off of my 10r when I went to a larger rear tire.

Good question, never even thought about that. Huggers are really cool but not cool enough to go back to stock size.
Also, if I got this right, I've recently been told that not all 190/55s are the same diameter.

I ran 190/50 and the hugger fit fine.Remember...it's attached to the swingarm,so even if it's like "REALLY CLOSE"...it most likely won't contact the tire...unless your tire is able to flex like a dragster tire at powerup.I bought the Bestem hugger in CF.Will most likely be putting it back on soon....MAYBE...tonight.180/55 right now.Plenty of room..at least an inch, maybe more.It only hit when I lowered the rear an inch.It was then hitting the undertail(removed fender area). But it never touched the tire.
How much height is different between a 190/55 and a 190/50?Couldn't be too much could it?Okay...ya ,I see now...you want to go to the 55.Well,I would take a guess and say....yep...I think she'll fit okay. But there won't be any wide gap between.(they aren't called huggers for nuthin!)
Let me run this by ya....IF,now,I'm runnin a 180/55(which I am),and my clearance is very good width wise and height wise, then could I assume that the 55(width)would be the same on both tires....?IDK.And IF she cleared on the 190 for diameter height with an inch or so,could I assume THAT would be okay on another tire...a 190/55?Just wondering here...I truly don't know.Want me to measure the clearance when installed for ya?Sides and profile?

Right on Bean...yer ridin days and good leg again are about to start over!!Way to go!I'm HAPPY for ya!And a way awesome Christ Mas time to ya also Bro!
Got my hugger back on now....there's at least two inches of side profile clearance, and just at one inch top center tread clearance.I'd say the 190/55 will be close at the center tread, but fine on the outside. That's with a BESTEM...can't say how another brand MIGHT be "profiled different" in the shaping dept.

Thanks guys.
When I put the 190/55 tire on my 10r, the hugger cleared the tire ok... but once I rode it down my gravel driveway, the rocks that would stick to the tire would rub the hugger. If there's an inch of clearance (stock tire) on the 14, that shouldn't be an issue.

Check out 6th post on this thread. If you have 1/4 inch t o play with, that could be a problem depending on the exact model of 190/55 tire you have on there. They vary almost 1/4" in height according to this experienced rider/wrencher..

Thanks Rook. I knew different brands and styles of tires vary in size... but a 1/4" for the "same size tire" is more than I thought. 1/4" overall diameter would only be 1/8" less clearance on the hugger. I already have bt016's sittin' here, and a hugger is on the way. If clearance is tight, I'll take size variances into consideration when I replace the Stones.
Anyone know of a good website for finding actual dimensions of different motorcycle tires? Something like TireRack has for car and truck tires???
Go to the "Newbies" section dogo!
J/K Bean. Thanks! Them pics is what I needed to see. That one looks like the Powerbronze?

I have a geelong carbon craft hugger with a Pirelli Corsa III 190/55.
The tyre fits ok, but the little bugger picks up gravel and carries it around for a rev or two scraping the inside of the hugger. The tyre didn't make enough of a change to the handling so my next tyre will be a 180/55 like I used on the R1 previously. Hoping for better handling again.
Soon after I had the hugger installed I went over a layer of gravel, picked up so much that the hugger now has several splits from teh gravel being squeezed through a tight space. This might not be an issue with another make of hugger. The Geelong Carbon products are beautiful, but they are lightweight (by design I expect) so they are quite thin and therefore susceptible to breakage.
I wouldn't repeat the same combination.
I may replace the hugger with another Geelong CC hugger at the same time as I replace the tyre.

Thanks guys. Corsas have a bit taller profile than the Bridgestones. Maybe I'll be ok. If not, I'll do what I have to make it work. I ordered a Carbon Dynamics Carbon Fiber Rear Fender / Hugger
. It's cheap, so I won't mind cuttin' it up if need be, like I would a Geelong. I really like their tank protector, but pricey stuff. I'd feel bad about cuttin' or bustin' up a $400 hugger... $125, not so much.
